Two year oil change
I've been questioning the suggestions of an oil change at least once a year. I know that many big trucks only change their oil when an oil analysis says it is needed. So I decided to give a two year interval a try. Attached you will see my oil analysis after two years and 5300 miles. The results are outstanding and the lab says that I could easily go a lot farther on the oil. I probably won't go more than two years, but there is no doubt that using the correct oil, Mobil 1 0W40, and the correct fleece oil filter one can go farther than a year between changes if the miles you put on your car are low.
I could not find any requirement in the owners manual or service manual of a one year requirement from Mercedes. In fact I couldn't find any indication based on time. I'd like to have someone point that out to me if it is in fact in print. It is also interesting to note that my service indicator on the dash had counted down to 2 days for service being due. I had last set it almost two years ago. Unless that was a coincidence, it looks like the time counter counts down from two years and the mileage counter counts down from 10,000.
