Service manual?

On my previous cars I have bought a factory service manual book(s). Usually were somewhere between $60 and $200. I called MBUSA the other day as well as my dealer and they said there is no FSM for the SLK55. Does anyone know if it is called something else or how I can look at the different aspects of my car, such as removing the climate control or radio? Seems like I found a website called startekinfo.com where you could pay for a day, week, month, year of access but I think a year was $2200.

Question2. Is there a place to buy oem mercedes parts online that is any cheaper than the dealer. In the past I have seen some large dealers have an internet parts department where you could get parts from them online cheaper than my local dealer. Not a lot cheaper but maybe 10-15%.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

hiya,

Unfortunately MB don't make the Service Manuals like they used to its all on database now and you either use a combo of monthly update disks and extranets like we dealers do to access the data or you can use StarTek to get certain parts of the info online but it costs a fortune.

You could trawl EBay for WIS disks but as they get older they become redundant and MB have now discontinued WIS in favor of WISnet so you wont find any disks on EBay newer than 05.

For the parts SLKWorld can get them or there is a website that sell at a discount i don't remember its name but ask Ynot he knows the addy for it.

Unfortunately as cars get newer and the technology in them gets more advanced the more secretive companies tend to get to hide the inner workings from others.

Sorry to sound so negative guys

Thanks Dan. I went to my local dealer to get a price on the auto climate control panel so I can switch to auto climate control. If I read right that is all that is needed (well I get an error but it still works). Anyway the guy kindof looked at me like I was nuts but in the end went in the back and after 20 minutes came out with a printed exploded view and the part on a quote. I guess it is about right but I was hoping for less than $632.70. I am having a hard time spending that just so the A/C works itself.

I guess I will just subscribe to the startekinfo.com for a day and try to get what I need anytime. $30 for 24 isn't bad if I can look on how to pull the console apart and maybe replace a fog light that is smashed from interstate rocks.

Seems to me someone else did this conversion to Auto climate control. And seems like there was some sensor that wasn't present and that caused at least some function to not work properly. I don't remember the details, but you might try searching on benzworld or here or mbworld, don't remember where I read it.

I think Dan posted up in another thread that the auto filtration wouldn't work or something lik that but that the system worked and the error it threw up was only an informational warning. I will try searching mbworld and benzworld.

Hey mate,

Will check that number to make sure its correct and will get back to you asap.

Whats missing is the multifunction sensor that the auto climate uses to work out some of the air quality stuff, it leaves a messages saying that its broken so its not using it anymore but it wont effect the rest of the unit and simply have the dealer dis-regard the code whenever the car is in for service.

Thanks Dan.

Do you know if there is a way for me to add the multifunction sensor to correct this? I looked at some of the training docs on the A/C and the two different systems looked pretty different but it could be they just didn't cover the standard a/c in as much detail.

I don't think it can be added because the comfort AC has a special wiring harness that connects up a few different things and it runs from the passenger compartment to the engine bay so that makes it even harder to retrofit because the sensor is actually located in the battery box
