South West London after market/garage customer experience, what do you think?

Hi,

I thought it would be interesting to share this with you. In summary, my SLK developed a funny whining noise, worried I called the following garages asking if someone could have a quick look just to have an idea about what was goin on, I clarified that I was not planning to leave the car in the shop.
Here is the result of my enquiry:

1) MB shop A: sorry we are fully booked for 10 days, please call Croydon. I said, its only for a 3 min assessment... Not possible

2) MB shop B: we are booked for 10 days, please call shop A. .

3) MB shop C: they kindly agreed to see the car, and stated that the supercharger and air conditioning needed to be changed? next available day... 10 days later.

When the day comes to bring the car in, i have to cancel because I have an emergency at work guess when the next available date for bringing the car in is? yes another 10 days.

Am I expecting too much or am I right to think that there is room for improvement?

what do you guys think?

ciao

Why not try an independant MB specialist ?

Supply him the part no's and I am sure he can get it fixed as your engine is shared with many mercede's vairants such as the C-class, E-class etc.

Hi alroumi, how are you ?
yes you are right. The thing is, I am not sure there is anything wrong with the supercharger or the aircon, they were just trying to buy time and get rid of me for 10 days. Anyway, I managed to cahnge my work committments and I am bringing the car in tomorrow. I will keep you posted

ciao

Sounds like ten days is the standard answer --- over here it's "how about next Tuesday" or as in Zinga"s case "drive it for awhile maybe it will go away"

sounds like they are fobing you off.
guarantee its not your supercharger or aircon, but seeing as they are main components they change them hoping that will solve the problem.
all under warranty i assume? if it is, demand a 55AMG as your courtesy car!!!

Hi,

yes I think they were fobbing me off... I have just told them... with a laughter.. and smiling but they got the message. I have dropped my beloved SLK at the stealer's an hour ago, I was given a Jeep Cherokee as a courtesy car! god its massive! I would have preferred the 55 as a curtesy car .... I quite like driving the Jeep though, very responsive, the sat nav is not so good. Hopefully i will be reunited with my SLK this Thursday! fingers crossed! I will keep you updated on what the problem is

aha, hello Paolo (di canio) sorry couldn't resist.
well it shows warranty is worth it, otherwise you would only have one leg. however if you drive an auto wouldnt really matter still.

Alroumi and OWL_SLK

In the end they did very well, they fixed it in a day and provided me with a courtesy car. It is just a shame that i had to call 3 dealers before I found one that was willing to see me at short notice even for only 5 minutes. In the end I think i must say thank you to the Mercedes branch in Epsom for being available and sorting everything out. So if you are in south west London, Epsom is the place to go to.

Ciao

I agree entirely!

On a different note, I enquired about the SLK facelift, but not surprisingly the sales representative did not have a clue...

Talking

I just got my SLK back a few hours ago , had the tail lights replaced on the recall. I did not have to wait 10 days but they refused to do the work on a Saturday, their techs don't work on Saturday. So they geve me an overnight loner, a C230. I would have rather had your jeep

Hi,

Actually I was really impressed with the Grand Cherokee V6 Diesel. I loved driving it, good accelleration, i liked the automatic gear, very responsive, the handling was obviously that of a ... big car. The interior was very interesting, I was disappointed with the sat nav which was very basic and rather unclear. I would consider going for it if I had 3 wives and 5 kids...

Ciao

Red face

I am currently in an interesting situation with my dealer. In February I bought a 2 year old 200K that was fully loaded. It has every single extra option available with the exception of rain sensitive wipers. I couldn't have got a more highly specified car. Anyway I took it in last week because the A/C wasn't working. They had to break the news to me that the A/C wasn't working because there was no A/C fitted!! Well, that's their problem as it was clearly advertised as having A/C!!

They have looked at retro fitting it but the cost is prohibitive (20+ hours labour alone), so they are now trying to find me a replacement car. However, ever they know they wont be able to find the same spec. I have agreed with them what options I will NOT do without, some of which can be swapped from my car (like the satnav, alloys and Bi-Xenons) but things like the telephone need to be factory fitted.

Basically I am saying I can live without the diver and passenger electric seats, the paddle shifters, sports suspension, parameter steering, even the Harmon/Kardon (I don't think it's that good I could get beter speakers fited), but I will only trade those off for a newer car!

I have to admit they have totally held their hands up and accepted responsibility and are going to sort it out but I do think it will be a while before they find a reasonably specified car to offer me. I guess I had just better hope there are not too many hot rainy days!!
