A refreshing change

One of my DRL's decided to play up last week. They have built in control units which make them dim whenthe side/headlights come on instead of going off like most do.

The nearside one was going out as soon as the main lights came on. Bought them 9 months ago and never kept the receipt. I rang the main distributors , Ring Automotive. They said send it in and we will test it. I posted it to them Monday. Today a complete new set arrived. I call that good customer service. No arguments No disputes

I will swap both out But they kept the faulty one so I have three. I could fit one in the middle and get a ticket for my trouble

Hey Jon !

You seem to have the same bumper design as I do, ('06 SLK 280) and I am starting to think about getting some DRL's. I searched the threads and all I could find were either facelift, AMG, or pulled out the fogs completely. Can you point me toward a thread where you explained putting your DRL's in, or just let me know how you set yours up and what parts you used? No rush.

Many Thanks,
Gene

I bought Ring Lyra DRLs. They come with metal brackets but I didnt use them. They just fitted between the fog light and the centre grill. ( UK laws dictate position positions for height and distance from the edge of the car) I I dumped the brackets and used double sided automotive tape to stick them to the bumper next to the fog lights. It does stick like hell. Had to use a hair dryer to soften the adhesive when I removed one this week. I ran the wires through the hole where the bumper bolt is. All these lights need is a fused wire from the + side of the battery. An earth, and one wire tapped into one of the sidelight positive wires. The come on as soon as the ignition is switched on. They dim down to sidelight power when the sidelights and or headlights are on. ( legal requirement in the UK. Off or dim) They also act as courtesy lights and stay on for about a minute after you lock the car to light your way to the house. Each light as 18 LED's

As I have to reinstall them I might put them at the top above the foglights if there is enough room. Need a dry mild day though. I have to work outside and its not very nice at the moment.

Mine are quite long and I think I opted for the bottom as they might interfere with the foglights as the top position is not as long and it also slopes up and the way I fix them makes them none adjustable. But I am going to check again before I reinstall.

Sound about the same. Yours is the facelift front that probably gives you a wider space. Plus I checked this morning and the upper edge on my bumper slopes up towards the front. It would tilt the lights upwards Looks like they will be going back in the same position as before. I dont mind too much

Ahh. Couldn't see how much space you had in your pics.

Just out of interest, the M-B DRLs switch off when any other lights switch on. Need to really, they are searingly bright.

Yes the division between the foglight part of the bumper and the main inlet grill is very different on the pre facelift models.

Thats what I liked about the Ring Lyra's they dim as soon as the headlights come on. so you have in effect another set of sidelights.

No I am having problems with LED number plate bulbs. Sent one set back as they had big heatsinks on the back. Replacements came today. Put them in only one light the other blinked on and off. Took it out and put a festoon in. No light at all. Swapped them round and only one came on. Took them both out and put festoons back in Both work. Seems most of these LEDs are rubbish
