Stayed up all night watching MotoGP and it was almost worth it. There was a point during the night when I looked at Chester (for the abxcence of doubt, he is one of my dogs - a fat Basset!), laying on his bed between the sofa and the coffee table, his head on three pillows and a duvet pulled up to his chin. The little guy looked soooooooo comfortable and indeed, was. I invited him to go out for a wee about 6:00 and he just looked at me like I was deranged... perhaps he's right?

Anyway, being up and awake the sun made a welcome appearance and I took the dog out, then fitted my new rear spoiler and then Gummi Pflege'd all the seals, roof as well though I did have a panic when I discovered the roof doesn't stay put and even though I'd stopped pressing buttons and taken the keys out and the bloody roof opened without any help from me or hydraulics though the bootlid stayed in 'air brake' mode.
Later, I washed the car.
God, my life is so very exciting! I do like the spoiler though and so easy to fit but a definite 'one shot' only job, sneeze at the wrong time and you could end up with the spoiler across the rear window and it would NEVER come off!

Went into the garage to make sure the (trickle) charging light was still green on Schwarzie (sleeping for the winter).

What prompted me to do this: got our first snowfall early this a.m.
Melted now but still......

Well I pulled the trigger and traded the SLK280 for same year AMG 55 in Pewter Silver. Sorry; I don't like to own black cars, just look at them right after they get washed.

The 280 had a bit of a push going into the corners and I was concerned the 55, with the added weight up front, would be worse; so far it's much better, but it's been very wet and I haven't had a chance to prove it out on dry pavement.

Forgot to say in my long, rambling post above, I also cleaned out the drains under the bonnet. I 'thought' they were clear but when I really looked, er, no, well blocked though I had to take the cover over the battery off to get to the proper one under it. Then cleaned and oiled/greased all the hinges and latches for the roof and then the doors, bonnet and boot.

I felt all protective so sprayed waxoyle under the side skirts and into little gaps hither and yon, just in case...

- plugged firewall hole with original rubber plug
- plugged spare wheel well hole with original rubber plug
- replaced corroded can bus rail
- replaced corroded roof can bus plug (roof error gone, roof doesn't yet work) (*)

- dried driver side foot well
- cleaned all drains on the car I could find - water probably gets in somewhere behind driver (RHD) seat area
- wet seal test with unhealthy amount of water

- cleaned both ground points in the driver foot well. One was not shiny clean. It was the one that is providing ground for the engine ECU (probably) W29/2 and W29/11

- cleaned ground point on the wall behind driver seat (was clean, but I couldn't resist). Edit: W32/2

- cleared P0133 (monitored) and P0135 (permanent) errors

- plenty of rubber seals cleaning with wet towel

Edit (*) the roof after throwing a few errors seems to work (self reset?). I tested in half way about 10 times and all seems to be OK

Applied Q2 Cancoat to the toboggan. While I would call the results passable, the application was a nightmare. It took about 45 minutes to apply and nearly 2 hours to correct the smudges, smears and fogged areas. If I didn't buff the wet surface immediately, I had to chase the mistakes by applying more of the stuff. In all I probably have three coats on it.Can't say that I would recommend it.

did an oil & filter change on my 320 at the weekend. Today was the first opportunity I had to take her out & being as it was 8.5 oC & sunny, the roof came down.

Only a short hop to the local town, but on the way back, I thought I could smell hot oil. Got home & lifted the bonnet (hood for our friends across the pond) to see oil everywhere, all over the front of the engine & belts, the rad, fan oil cooler, everywhere.

First thought was I'd split an oil line, but a quick inspection seems to indicate I'd pinched the seal for the oil filter cap, at least that's what i'm hoping it is.

Will have a better idea when I clean everything up & get a better look at the weekend.

What did you do to your SLK 'TODAY'?

I put it into storage in my heated garage. Still to do: inflate tires to 40 psi or more, add fuel stabilizer, hook up trickle charger to battery, remove the two=piece bra and install a car cover, then call my insurer to reduce coverage for the winter months. Our 2003 Miata with 27,200 KMs went to a storage facility nearby yesterday at a cost of approx. CAD 2.00 per day for five months.

Had a new coolant tank installed today, technician noticed a small oil leak around the oil level sensor. He thinks it might be the upper timing cover gasket that needs replacing.

Changed the sidelight bulbs for some new ones which give out a nice white light instead of a dull yellow glow.

Only realised this as the new antenna I fitted means I can unlock the car as I walk towards it.

It's a bit tight for access behind the lights isn't it!
