Over the last few weeks, I worked on getting the A/C sorted out. Replaced the dryer, condenser and expansion valve. Had system evacuated and filled this led to the discovery of the fan controller being bad so wasn't cooling at idle. The local junkyard had several Benz's with the replacement part and now it is all sorted out. I also ordered new seat covers to get it looking fresh.
I did place the car for sale, but really enjoy it and will continue to fix it up and make better over the next year.

Ever since I had my: gearbox oil change I've had a persistant leak coming from the seal. I took it back to the Indy (MB Specialist) who did the work and he fitted a new gasket, (First one was found to be pinched at the rear) but after a couple of months it started leaking again. Anyway, I just had a new sump-pan fitted (With another new gasket) and I'm hoping that this will solve the problem. Even though there was no apparent damage to the old pan or gasket - I'm just wondering if it was 'over tightened?' The manager carried-out the work this time so I'm hoping it's solved the problem?

Had the engine light on coming home last night and a rough idle. Car ran fine into work.
Scanned it this morning and it bought up errors in the MAF sensor and two oxygen sensors downstream of it.
Ten minutes later, a thorough squirtage of electrical contact cleaner and a quick wipe down and all is good. Codes cleared.

Happy days.

As a side note, on the advice of a mechanic work colleague, I have replaced the K&N with the standard MB air filter.
He's lost count of the amount of MAF sensor troubles he's seen due to oiled filters...

If the first gasket was pinched it could of slightly bent the pan as well thus causing your second leak.

I have seen one leaking due to the company retard hammering a flat blade between box and pan as it would not come apart , but did once he took all bolts out !

Other stuff , after market gaskets that don't fit correctly , over filled gearbox and excess comes out breather then runs down outside of box to the pan this can make you think it's the Pan gasket , and rear output shaft seal leaking down onto the pan.

Hope your sorted

Over oiling the filters is the issue , people put to much on. Give the k&n a wash and light oil then leave to soak into the filter for 24,hrs before you put them back.....that is of course if you are missing the k&n.

I have bmc in mine and wash plus oil once a year , been in around 8 years now 55.000 miles with no problem

Spent two days cleaning decals off the 350.

Made sure I cleaned and polished before fitting.

Used hair dryer to heat before removal.
Sprayed areas with water after removal and immediately hit with quick detailer.

Bonnet took two attempts. The heat from the engine hardens the glue.

Need it to rain (did I REALLY say that!) to double check.

Top tip from Pete @frogfoot if glue fights back.
Use tar and glue remover.

I read about several makes of vehicles and this seems to be a persistent issue. I’ve said it before, and I will state again, I simply don’t understand how K&N stays in business, or at least how they continue to sell their filters.

Had a K&N on mine for many years now no issues at all think issues are when people clean and over oil the filters thats when issues arise so user error .

Been using K&N for 30+ years on everything from Holley's, turbo cars and the 55. Top tip when re oiling, use aerosol spray NOT the dribble bottle. Leave in airing cupboard overnight on kitchen roll and check for any obvious blobs on rubber.

Ever since Mercedes upgraded my top to the glass (The painted on delaminated behind the passenger and whistled like crazy above 60) here in Florida the heat factor on our brains gets really high. I found a package of 4 window tints that simply use static cling to apply. Tried two of them on the top and then drove down to Daytona Beach and back and the difference was nothing short of amazing...so much more enjoyable not needing to wear a ballcap to protect my skull...they were about 7 bucks for 4 pieces...the temp in Daytona was 99, clear sky, total sun.
oh, the car is a 2012 SLK 350 (172)...
