Hang on ... where's my locking nut key?

Tools? nope not there.
In the car? nope.
On the floor where I was working? nope.
In my pockets? nope.
In the kitchen when I made a coffee? nope.

So now I'm beginning to panic ..

Oh ffs .. I have a sinking feeling ..

Took a slow 2 mile walk, looking every which way, nope.

Researched "how much is this going to cost me?" answer: A trip to a stealership and approx 35 - 40

ffs ..

Took a slow 2 mile drive.
"hang on, what's that at the side of the road?"
"no way! yay! woohoo!"

I've never actually kissed a locking nut key but I came mighty close

Turns out that I'd driven 1.8 miles with the locking nut key still on the locking nut before it fell off and rolled under a parked car.

One very very lucky man.

Good job that I didn't go above 20(ish)mph or it could have flown off into the ether, never to be seen again

I feel like a complete dick to be honest but so relieved to have found it .. eventually .. after 3hrs of searching

Man, that's nowt. This numpty went 22 miles, at least 18 of them on the M62 with his locking wheel nut still on the wheel. Couldn't find it when I got to the garage. My mechanic did, once he had reconstructed my behaviour before I left home.

Someone up there took pity on me that day.

We've all done something similar. Let the person who's never done it be the one to have a go at you - certainly won't be me. All's well that ends well and lesson learnt!

Roof seals done

Didn't actually move the car today, but set to and made up 2 "John's broomstick" props.

Then after a bit of fiddling about and assistance from my co-driver(!) got the roof propped half open to work round and thoroughly Gummi-Pflege all the seals. Cleaned inside the rear window as well while I had easy access to it.

Took the opportunity to have a good look at the roof mechanism as well, what a bit of Engineering that is.

Finally got the roof closed safely and put the battery charger on just to top up again after several ups and downs with the engine off,

Could never have done it without all the information on here that people have taken the time to document and post, so huge thanks to everyone who's been down this road before

Martin

Cleaned dodgy ground connection next to the ECU. Looks like I fixed radio reception, remote opening distance problem, starting problems and roof errors, all in one go!

Maybe, but you'd feel much worse if you realised that you lost it at the side of the road some six month's hence.... That doesn't bear thinking about. Treat yourself to a pat on the back - and your next upgrade - for thinking about it so quickly. And then finding it.

I finally had some time to put some work in. The interior was first up. The car has had a few owners, none of which seemed to be a fan of cleanliness. Everything is in fantastic shape though, it just smelled perfumey and stuffy. I cleaned every surface I could reach, it was pretty nasty. The bucket photo is just from the seats. The steering wheel and shift knob were just as nasty.

I got my smarttop today and my back up camera. Ill do those next, then a two stage paint correction. Judging by the swirly mess the paint is, some or all of the previous owners were big fans of the drive through paint marring machines. Im totally digging this car though! Its my first convertible, its going to be a fun summer!

Good to know that I'm not the first to do such a dumb thing and probably wont be the last

22 miles has gotta be some sort of record so well done on finding it

Thought I'd replace the control arm that was highlighted as having slight play, when Mabel got her MOT. before heading to Europe in June. Found this place whilst Googling an alternative to the stealership.

The Garage Busby

Liking what I saw, on Thursday I'd been through to visit the garage and get a quote for the job. Recommended by the Mercedes Benz Club, it is owned and run by Brian Melville, the son of one of the guys who helped design the Triumph GT6, as I found out when getting the craic with him. The quote was very reasonable and the staff knowledgeable, so I booked her in for today. (With Mercedes Glasgow I would have had to wait at least another week to get her looked at.)

This morning I left Mabel there, was lent a car, as there was a delay in the parts getting delivered, before I went back this afternoon when the work was done and was also told that they'd also replaced 6 screws missing from the undertray. (They must have been forgotten about when the front bumper was refitted after being removed for painting a few weeks ago. )

The price ... 140 including the parts (control rod, track rod end and gaiter, all OEM), VAT, and labour. Less than the cost of the diagnosis charge that the stealership would have charged before even starting the job!

After my experience of dealing with Brian's garage I will definitely be using them again, and would recommend fellow members to check them out if looking for an alternative to the stealerships.

Gave my baby a big hug and a cuddle - a bit of a 'there there, daddy's home now' moment.

I've just got home after a week in not so sunny Spain but apparently there's been some sort of heatwave in the UK while I've been away. Imagine my surprise/shock/horror to receive a text from my daughter the other day telling me she fancied a bit of 'top down' motoring in the sunshine and by the way, she's borrowed my car to that end. Cheeky little sod even sent me a selfie of the moment

She even found my Peaky Blinders hat

Incidentally, for anyone who's interested the hat (and me) will be making a brief tour of Hollywood in October when my bestie and I visit LA to see The Who play at the Bowl. Cheaper than Wembley and a bit more of a bucket lister in my opinion.

Forecast rain.
But an evening car meet to go to.

Yep, washed both.
Yep, RAINED.

Still made it to the inaugural North Clwyd Animal Rescue Car Caf.
Took both as we figured rain might put off the fixed roof lot (it did).
Still a success as all enjoyed a tour of cattery, pups and long timers kennels.
Good food, company, cars and animals.
Heaven.

Last pic is for Woz.
