Aftermarket HID, interior lights and all other lighting questions I have

so I found a shop that coded my xenon to on for $30. I'm running the kit directly to my stock harness. The issue I'm having now is that after a period of running the xenon, when I stop to do something that only takes a short few minutes, come back and fire the ballast back on, the passenger side turns on for like a semi second and then turns off, throw a right side low beam error, and would require manually turning the headlights off and on a few more time before it fires back on again. Again, this only happens on the passenger side, and only if the light has been off for a short amount of time from previous usage, and turned back on again.

We've replaced the ballast, has yet to replace the bulb. Does not flicker when they are running. The ballast has a built in capacitor and error canceler. I remember I've found a thread somewhere on here that has this very same issue, but for the life of me, the search function isn't showing that thread. Anyone has any idea for a fix or possible issue?

Also, the ballasts are tucked inside the housing. Could the heat be a possible cause for this as well? Seems strange since it's only the passenger side that this is happening to.

UPDATE: PROBLEM SOLVED. The capacitor was bad. Replaced capacitor, runs smooth like butter

If the ballast has an error canceler, is it still necessary to code the xenons to "on"? Maybe you could try switching the driver and passenger side bulbs.

What he said. You don't need "error cancelers " if code XENON=PRESENT. No clue what happens if you do, but can't imagine anything making 35w = 55 w to cancel errors is a good thing with coding.

yup, at this point, I'm also leaning at this point toward faulty bulb. Gonna switch the bulb this monday night and see if the problem migrates.

so earlier tonight, my friends and I checked out the passenger, and once again, the ballast was pretty heated up. We figured it was definitely isolated to the passenger side. This time, we replaced the ballast (as the previous one was really hot, and we were afraid of trickling issues), as well as the capacitor, just to rule out a faulty capacitor. If this doesn't work, then it would definitely be the bulb. So far so good, the passenger side has been firing up smoothly without any of the previous problems, so it seems like the capacitor what the main culprit. We're going to let it run for a few more days just to see how it goes. One of the advantages of having a friend in the aftermarket lighting business -- lifetime warranty on all parts

In the meanwhile, we've also replaced all the interior lights with error free 6k white leds, all work well with no problem. One thing though, the foot well lights are staying on, even after the door-open lights turns off. Will they eventually turn off by themselves if left alone? I find they instantly turned off when I lock the car, but in case there are times when I forget to lock my car when i park in the garage, I don't want to empty out the battery overnight. Anyone has experience with this?

I replaced all the interior lights too. The foot well and door-open lights stay on during nighttime driving. Apparently the stock bulbs stay on too but they are do dim that we just never noticed it before.

Ah, thanks for the reply james, but yes, I've noticed that they stay on during driving (just brighter than stock), but my question was more about what happens after you shut down the engine. sorry i forgot to specify that part.

when I locked the car, the foot lights turned off. But normally when I park it in the garage, I just shut the door without locking. I noticed that even after the map lights and everything else turns off, the foot lights were still on, and i think I sat in the car waiting for a good 30 seconds after all other lights shut off and they were still on. So I'm just wondering if left alone, will these lights eventually turn off without locking the door?

Does your turns off or eventually dim away after awhile post-parking and shutdown? I just dont want to worry about forgetting to lock the door one night and then wake up to a drained battery.

They should go off when the CANBUS shuts down - so about 5 minutes after the car is turned off, and the doors closed.

I think locking the car will turn off those foot lights more quickly compared to not locking. I guess I should time it one day but I'm positive that it doesn't remain on and drain your battery. It's hard at first to get used to the light staying on but it does look pretty cool.

so the headlights are working just fine. Replacing the capacitor did the trick. And now, I've come to not worry about foot light as much. Still weird to walk away with the lights still on.

Front plate off, aerowings on, hid installed, led lights in. The only two things left to change are the exhaust note for a little bit more grumbling, and switch out the audio 20 for a nav system soon, real soon.

Nice to hear to solved your issue. Now how about some pics? Any thoughts on which exhaust you will get?

I just pulled the trigger on a JVC NT30HD unit on amazon that was going for 599.

Will I also need the Metra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface to integrate it to the steering wheel volume/track controller? Also, does anyone know where to look for the bezel/hu-surround cover that would look most integrated and non-aftermarket? I remember reading somewhere that there's a version that has some texture, and then there's a version that is flat smooth?

as far as exhaust go, I think it would be something I'll tackle after the xmas holiday, since I'll need to research more on what's available, as well as budget for the holiday spendings.... is there any exhaust or muffler that can let me keep the dual stock tips on my facelift? I actually like them more than round quads...
