Sonax Wheel Cleaner Full Effect

Whoa! Challenge got a bath today! Used some Sonax Wheel Cleaner Full Effect from Phil @ Detailer's Domain and it is fantastic. Absolutely the best wheel cleaning potion I have ever used. If you haven't tried this stuff, I highly recommend you give it a shot.

Thanks - dropped more cash that I planned on Phil's "SEMA" sale, but didn't get any of the Sonax - may have to do another order! :P

Just watching it change color from flourescent green to bright purple is worth the cost! I'm thinking it reacts with the iron in the brake dust, hence the color change and very stong odor.

Seriously, the stuff works so well I just couldn't believe it. No amount of scrubbing with car wash soap would even come close to the results I got with Sonax!

Thanks for the tip. I have aftermarket wheels with a satin finish on my Lexus IS 350. I wipe the tires daily with tire shine and, between washings, the wheels stain (not over spray). Soap and water doesn't work. I use mineral spirits once they're dry to remove the stains. I'm looking for a simpler solution. Is the Sonax spray and rinse or requires the usual scrubbing? Mixed reviews HERE.

Sonax still requires a little scrubbing, not just spray and rinse. You wouldn't want to use a product that would be strong enough to just spray and rinse.

Once the wheels are totally clean, you should use a sealant to keep the brake dust from sticking so tightly to the wheel. Then you'll be able to wash it off with just soap and water until the sealant wears down. DD has Wolf's nano sealant and Prima Wheel armor. I've used the latter and it does a good job. A pain to apply, especially to the many spokes on my 55, but you don't have to do it often.

An easier to apply sealant is Permanon because you just spray it on, but it's pretty spendy stuff. Although it does have a lot more uses than just sealing wheels. You can use it to seal the whole car exterior.

Don, you might want to try a different tire shine product that doesn't fling itself onto the wheels. Give Griot's "Long Lasting Tire Dressing" a try. Griot's also has a heavy duty wheel cleaner that IMO does at least as well as Sonax, but for less money. I've tried both.

Gregg...any pics?
-1- I have stains on my rims - I suspect someone has used something caustic at some point and let it sit. Any suggestions on how to remove it short of refinishing the rims (which I plan to do when I wear out these awful Riken tires..).

I always use a plush soft toilet brush on a plastic stick to get in behind the spokes. Wally World has quite an assortment....both cheap and bendable for tight areas. So, basically a light scrub and rinse. Challenge's wheels were not that dirty, but the Sonax did result in a marked improvement. Again, the stuff just worked great.

John.....if someone used a caustic solution on your wheels and it etched the metal you will not be able to rinse it off anyway anyhow. Are your wheels poished Aluminum?

Suggest you leave pictures of new wheels and tires labeled "What Kismet wants for Christmas!" around the house where the Mrs., Santa, and the kids can see them.
