the cost of dealer setting xenon present

Right now, I'm running an aftermarket hid kit with an error canceler, draws power directly from the stock 55w, no relay, and DRL turned off. No error, all working. But I would like to have the hid also turn on as DRL. I've been reading that to keep the hid running without flickering from the lower power of DRL, i would need dealer to code xenon present on the gateway and controller. My question is, how long is this process, and how much should it cost?

I called the service guy and he quoted it would cost me ~ $120 to get it recoded... but he mentioned it was on saturday and all his guys were busy so it would be costing more, and suggested for me to come on regular day and it might be less. Anyone has any idea about the price he gave me? It sounded like a simple 5 minutes job, and that the price seemed a bit excessive, no?

So if you have had yours recoded to xenon present by the dealer, please let me know how much they charged and how long it took you. Thanks!

My total invoice was $118.39 from my dealership. Maybe you could call some MB indie shops to work on the price.

Are you in a hurry to have it done? I'm hoping to have a tool to allow you to do it yourself for somewhere in the $50-75usd range.

I'm headed stateside for Thanksgiving - and one last round of testing - before really jumping on this..

UK-C200: I've been watching your discussion on the "fuel level" thread with great interest. I have a feeling your tool will prove extremely popular. Keep us posted and best of luck with it!

not at all in a hurry. right now I just manually turn my headlights on and off during the day. Usually i would forget my headlights as I've had them on auto on my previous car, but the terrorizing beeps in the slk does a really good job at reminding me the lights are still on. I have to bring the car back on wednesday to have that windshield rain condensation whatcha ma callit applied (provided free by the dealer for spending 1 liver and 3 arms on their extended warranty) and see how much they can cut the coding down for coming in on a non-weekend. I'll continue to look around for some other mb shops to see if the price is any lower.

How much longer do you estimate the waiting of before releasing this witchcraft xenon enabler that you speak of?

It's really ready now, I'd just like to do a bit more testing before releasing it in the wild. Target was to try it on a couple of cars stateside over Thanksgiving, and if all went well, call it done...
