Would you trade a SLK 350 for an SLK AMG

My wife and I have been talking about selling the SLK 350 and getting a SLK AMG, is it worth it?
The only thing is that in order to change our car for an SLK 55 we would have to give our excelent condition 350 for a more milage SLK 55.
Do you guys think is worth it?

The only reason one would pick a 350 is if you absolutely need a stick shift, it looks like you have the GT3 for that purpose, trade it in, no doubt. Post some pics of the GT3, that's one of my favorite cars.

Good question. I can only relate my situation. My wife and I purchased a lightly used 2006 SLK 350 in Dec 05. Unless you factory order, chances are you will make concessions on color or options. The 350 we purchased was the right color, Iridium silver, wanted red leather interior, got black. Had to be a six speed manual, got that, wanted factory NAV and Sirius SAT radio, got them both. Wanted factory xenons, AirScarf and heated seats, didn't get any. Based on it being a 2006 with 944 miles, and a big discount, we purchased. During the past year, we have thoroughly enjoyed the SLK 350. It's primarily my wife's car, but I'm a designated part-time driver. After spending months on the various MB forums, I knew our next SLK would be a new, factory ordered 2008 SLK 55/63 in the right colors with all the "must have" options. I was waiting on finalized 2008 information before making a final decision and ordering. Almost daily, I check eBay for used SLKs and accessories. I never seriously considered getting a used SLK 55 due to the concession issue I discussed above. During the third week of March, I found the used 2005 SLK 55 I purchased, on eBay. Based on the auction description, pictures, and discussion with the seller, this was the PERFECT, 100% CORRECT, EXACTLY optioned/color/interior SLK 55 that I wanted. I made two decisions. The first was to purchase the SLK 55, and the second was to keep my wife's SLK 350. I know, nice guy. She has hers, and I have mine. The perfect situation FOR US. Many here have moved from the SLK 280/350 to the SLK 55. I'm not a follower or a social climber. I could care less what people think. After my time on the forums, I wanted a SLK 55. Why you ask? It's top of the line, the hand built V8, big brakes, AMG body kit, the SLK 55 on the left side of the trunk lid and the AMG on the right. The stance, the look, the history. The only negative is the lack of a six speed manual as a transmission choice. The SLK 55 might not be right for everyone. Both the SLK 280 and 350 are fine vehicles and meet all the expectations and needs of most. I wanted more and it was the right move for me. It would have been a sad day if we chose to sell or trade the SLK 350 for the SLK 55. She (wifey) and I are smiling all the way to the garage and beyond. JRCNRING, you're in great company if both you and your wife are in agreement in moving to the SLK 55. So yea, make the move. I can attest there are MANY great deals on used, low mileage, excellent condition, SLKs in all models. Sorry, but I'm a SLK nut!

My immediate answer will be... GO FOR IT~~~

If the SLK55 is not that expensive in Hong Kong, I'll certainly get one!

Do it. You won't regret it.

BTW, that's a nice stable of cars you have there. I'm envious of that GT3. How's it so far? Have you taken it out on any tracks yet?

We had an AMG vehicle (SRT6)was an excellent car but the ride was way to firm for us -- performance was on par with the SLK 55 --- if we could afford to have both we would --- but the comfort of the 350 won out. I hope you can have both in your stable.

Definitely get the SLK55, it feels like a totally different car. SLK350 is a toy in comparison to the AMG....

Sorry to tell you this, but SRT6 is closer to SLK350 in terms of performance. SLK55 is in a totally different league...

SRT6: 0.032
SLK32 0.028
SLK55 0.025
SLK55Black 0.021

I know that I am going to be a real minority here....sure, I have a SL55AMG in America....but, we have a SLK200 here in Bangkok and I feel really good about driving a minimum powered car here. Yes, I know that a big engine car in Bangkok can't get much exercise...still, I like starting my little 4 cylinder engine when I have to go someplace. Of course, in America I like to crank up the near 500hp engine. So, I am like everyone else...not very eco-friendly.

I need to get a bike..without a motor.

definately go the AMG. no comparison, it was built to be better than the 350. faster, better looking, better engine, better interior and part of the AMG clan. I wouldn't have a doubt in my mind to be honest.

I think the person more convinced about getting the 55 is Me. My wife likes the idea because she is a car nut as I am, but she reasons a bit more with the idea(cost and use). I would say the only reason we haven't pulled the trigger is because it is actually her daily drive and she feels that she does not need anything more than what she already has. In fact she alternates between the SLK and the M5 so for her it is not that important. When I drive the 350(not that often) I always have in my mind how much much better it could be with the power the 55 has. I think being a car enthusiast the idea of having the hard core version of the SLK makes me very tempted.
My other concern is depreciation, how much could it cost me to swap cars. I have been looking on Ebay on several cars and the prices on the 55 are very interesting but seeing that when new, our car was $20k less than the 55 the depreciation should be worst for 55's and the swap cost should be higher. We even considered trading our 350 for my GT3 which in the end decided not to.

DSB..... No track time as of today, to many business trips since the car arrived. I'm trying to make it to the next track day in a couple of weeks, I have already ordered the roll cage and the harnesses.
I do drive it to work when I'm in town and so far no regrets. I love the exhaust note. The only thing I was not to happy to have was the sunroof, but darn PNA did not wanted to delete it.

YNOT... see attachment.

Nice, isnt that Meteor Gray on your 997 GT3. Looks lovely.

I am considering a 997 Turbo in a few years time, I really want it in Meteor over Terracotta interior.

Yes Meteor gray with grey alcantara/leather interiors.
I also was thinking of white and doing martini racing stripes but I like the low profile the grey gives the car. Well so much for discrete with the rear wing
The turbo is a really nice car and great for every day driving. That was my other choice but I like the GT3 as it is more track oriented.

Your GT3 is beautiful, any shots of the interior? No rush, I love the interior of porsches, very sporty. My uncle recently brought a GT2 (996) here in Colorado and drove it back to Seattle, WA. I was working that day and he rushed out of Colorado before the blizzard came. I didn't get a chance to drive it. I was not a fan Porsche until he let me drive his 911 (993) for a couple of days, for an old car that thing sure can handle, I'm a believer now and love Porsches.

Cruzer, not to put down the SRT6 (which i like) but once again, even at 4.9s it's still lagging behind the 55 at 4.3s/0-100 km. Half second doesn't seem like much in terms of numbers, but represents a pretty big difference in actual performance. The 55 has a lot more torque.
