Daylights mod for US SLKs imported into Canada - Help

Hello,

I've imported a 200 SLK230 from the U.S. to Canada. In Canada, they require a mod for the headlights to be on at all times when the car is running. My tech did the mod; however, the lights signal on the panel did turn on and stays on, which is annoying.

Apparently, those ever helpful guys at Mercedes Canada (the same who ask $450 for a tiny car remote) ask the trifling sum of $700 (yes, you read right!) for a "daylight module".

Is there any way to make the mod without: (a) having to endure the light signal on the instruments panel being on all the time; and (b) not having to get gouged yet again by Mercedes for a "daylight module".

Thanks in advance,

Jean P.:hail:

I'll bow to the 170 experts here...but fore the 171 it is controlled by software and can be switched on through the SDS. Not sure about the 170.

Who exactly activated them for you? Is the importation process complete now? If so, have him undo whatever he did for you, and simply turn them on each time you start up! There are plenty of cars and trucks around without headlights (who knows why, and it's beyond me that they aren't required everywhere - cuz they work!).

Bienvenue d'Ottawa!

And on my R171, the owner gets to set this themselves in US. They can put the mode "Headlamp constant," on the menu behind the steering wheel. Surely this would be good if someone moved the car to Canada.

It's unfortunate that sometimes features just come a few years too late!

James, James, James. This is Canada...mother (government) is forever telling us what to do...and then making doubly sure you do it and don't have a choice! A number of safety studies were done back in the 70's showed that DRLs really are effective, so poof you have to have them up here. You'll still see cars without their lamps on - and you really do see the difference (ie harder to see on coming traffic).

So..170 owners (Berliner) is there an "ON" option in the 170?
