Question Maximum Speed Exceeded Warning Removal

Hi Guys,

My car is a 2005 SLK350, I live in Dubai.

Everytime I go over 120km/h (which is everyday here!) I get the Maximum Speed Exceeded warning along with the incredibly loud and constant beeping, and also the cluster and all the buttons are locked until I go below 120km/h.

I took it to a Merc specialist who has STAR but he said he doesn't know how to remove it!

I'm pretty sure it can be done as I did it for my previous car at the dealer (who is not allowed to do it anymore by law).

Could anyone help and post a detailed way on how to do it with STAR so I can tell the guy ?

Thx!

Cheers
JP

Hey JP - easiest way is to have him change the localization setting from "Gulf States" to "Rest of World". He can also do it on the Cluster Menu, removing the "Maximum Speed Warning" - can't remember if this is by setting it to "off" or simply to "0".

Hi John,

Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Just FYI, this guy is not an "official" dealer, he simply specializes in Mercs.
Had to go to him since the dealer is not allowed to remove this by law.

I did tell the guy what you said. I didn't completely understand his answer but I think he said that he has to be "online" for it work!

Any idea on what he's saying?

Thx again!

Cheers
JP

JP - I'll see if I can dig up the name of the Merc specialist I knew in Dubai - your guy is right, he needs to be able to go online (SCN Coding) to make the changes unless he has access to Engineering mode.

I"ve not got confirmed dates for my next trip to Dubai, or I'd offer to do it for a Starbucks venti latte!

Hehe

John, How about I throw in a return ticket to Dubai along with that venti latte!

I would be forever greatful if you could dig up that specialist!

That said, DAS or no DAS, you come to Dubai, you let me know...
You have already earned yourself a venti latte and a few beers

Cheers!
