replacing carpet

My 2010 SLK 350 is at the dealer for a carpet replacement, (long story). They said to replace the carpet the steering column and most of the dash had to be removed along with the obvious things. Does this sound right?

Not to me. Console yes. Steering column, no.

I took a look at my carpet, and it does seem at least the lower and tunnel side dash panels would have to be removed. There is a plastic bezel that covers the carpet where the steering column passes thru the firewall, so it's impossible to see if there is a slit in the carpet or not(quickly learning how MB does things, there may not be a slit). I would think anyone with an FSM(paper or digital) could get this info. Also, the gas pedal assembly looks as if it needs to be removed.

Ya' gotta' luv'em...

I'd think it would be a right major process - it's the second thing installed (after wiring) - in the interior. So for sure seats, gas pedal, center console, rear console. I suspect you probably have to pull the steering column to get the center console out...
