Back in November of 2013, I was shopping around for a replace radio for my 2007 Mercedes Benz SLK 280. That is when I came across this company NAVINIO.
They sell many types of head units that are drop in replacements for stock radios. I ended up purchasing model number ZC6998G
Their pricing was good and the radio had many features including Bluetooth, GPS Navigation, iPod integration as well as a DVD player and USB/SD Card ports. Here it is installed
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!! THEY ARE DISHONEST, LIARS AND HAVE POOR CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!
Right on their web site they have in bold letters, HIGH QUALITY, GOOD SERVICE, and STRICT MANAGEMENT. Well that is a joke!!
I received the radio which came with all the required cables and accessories. The installation was pretty straight forward, a drop-in replacement for the stock Benz radio.
After installing it and testing the features I found it had a terrible HISS when playing MP3 music using either the DVD, USB or SD Card ports. I wrote the company and was contacted by a Nina fairly quickly.
We went back and forth in regards to the issue. I even made a video to show them,
27 (yes 27) emails later and many months, still no success or resolve from Navinio. I even tried a software update they sent me which did not work and locked up the radio (had to pull the fuse to reset it).
What I did notice, there was no HISS when using the iPod. Knowing how computers work, these radios have computer mother boards in them. Since there was no HISS using the iPod, that ruled out an issue with the amplifier. So the issue must be either software related or something with the main processing PCB.
Finally they admitted there was an issue!! So after all these months they wasted with me. Nina finally told me, “We would like to send out you a replacement but our factory need to send us the product to us about three or four days. Then we would like to resend you. Is it ok?
Well now it is May and I still have no replacement. Writing to them for an update, they gave me excuse after excuse. First it was the Chinese New Year. Then they are waiting for parts….and still I have no replacement.
So around March, they STOPPED replying to my emails!! Yep, great Customer Support! Just ignore the customer.
So I decided to contact Navinio directly. The company I work for has an office in SuZhou China, so I asked one of my co-workers if they can contact them directly.
Guess what?? THEY ARE NOT EVEN IN HONG KONG!!!
They are in located in Shenzhen China. And the phone/fax numbers listed on their site are invalid.
My co-worker managed to contact them and ran through the issues all over again. After all that they said they would not send me a replacement radio, too expensive!! So now they did a complete reversal of what they originally told me.
Instead they would send me a replacement motherboard PCB. They said it is easy to replace and should fix the HISS issue.
So once again the emails started in regards to when they would send out the Motherboard. To make it cheaper for them, I asked them to send it to my China location.
Two months went by and no motherboard. Then finally we received something…….
WTF!! Do they think I am stupid or something?? That is certainly not a motherboard. Looks like the Micro SD Card interface that plugs into the motherboard. And of course no instructions…..
So once again, they are dis-honest liars!
And to boot, they once again have started ignoring my emails. So at this point there is not much I can do but live with it. The GPS and Bluetooth work good as well as the iPod interface. So it is not a total loss.
But be warned…..DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!!
