Boot racks

Over the years have seen retailers of chrome boot racks happily illustrate their goods fitted to every sort of car possible, including all SLK models.
Surely that is just sales desperation as SLK boot lids wouldn't operate with a rack attached let alone carry any load.
Google boot racks and you get the same ebay entry of a rack that has not been available for at least 3 years - I know I tried for one when I owned a Honda S2000!
Being an old-fashioned classic car saddo (think war-time MG's & Morgans )I fancy a neat chromed rack on my SLK, although I assure you I have ditched ( last week ) the string-backed driving gloves and leather helmet

Garage
I managed to fit a temporary bike rack to the boot lid of my 230 in such a way that it would carry a bike ( at 45 degrees over the tail) and still allow the roof to operate. I think you could just about get away with a small load on a rack, perhaps 10 to 15 kg or so, a small carry on style bag or two at most.
