SLK SunFest 2010 & car show, need comments and assistance...
I am asking for any help from anyone who wishes to help plan, assist with, execute, take charge of any portion thereof, etc. of the SLK Sunfest 2010 event in planning for Orlando Florida.
I have gotten far on planning the car show, which is one of the weekend's events. I am going to lay out the details now, as I think it will be fun and would like your comments on it.
The car show will have many of the normal things you see at them. Cars, awards for various things, longest distance travelled, hard luck, door prizes, memorial dash plaque, cars classed by model, year, restoration classes, modified classes and all that, etc. However, it will be different in a couple of ways.
It will be free to participate, and to watch.
There will be special prices like a Byron’z Benny award: a non-classified award given to someone who’s car sticks out for some reason. That’s right, an award plus a crisp $100 bill. Reason for win may or may not be disclosed.
The judging will be completely different. No, there will not be a group of judges hanging over each car. There will be no know-it-all with white gloves feeling your chassis up. Judging will be by perhaps an even harsher yard stick, your peers. Ballots will be given out to each person showing a car. They will have a predetermined number of votes for people in their same class set by the number of cars in that class. There will be one vote allowed for each other class.
Awards will be different. There will be no first second or third place. There will be no hierarchy, but each award will be called a “People’s Choice” award and will be given on a 40% to 50% basis. While you may think that would make a win not special, think again! If your class has 11 cars, then 5 cars will get awards. Of those, each one must obtain most of their votes from the very people competing against them, and also from people in other classes who only get one choice out of all 11 cars. Getting an award means you stood out, even to your competitors!
With a free car show giving door prizes, goody bags with plaques, a 40% award chance, a chance at $100 cash, and the enjoyment of showing off your baby, I think it would be hard to pass up.
