Whinning like a Blower

I am new here, found it by accident looking for Service E info.

After a non eventful 2 years of owning my sweet little Caspian Blue SLK 350, I arrived home, pulled in my garage and heard the sounds of a blower coming from under my hood.

Rev it up a bit and it goes from a quiet whoosh to a loud vrillll!

Check the power steering reservoir... AOK.

14k miles and the service E says 365 days past due, but there's no way thats the problem.

By the way, Thats a great Service E post you have here explaining how to change the filter. Finding that little puppy is just as secretive as getting to the crankcase's drain plug.

So back to my blower problem .... I was always thinking of adding a small Paxton type blower to the car, but this noise is not adding any horsepower just adding noise.

Thankfully the cars still under warranty.... so I call and schedule an appointment with my MB dealer. Explaining the issue's to the service desk, she says ok we'll set up for a Service E and take a look at the noise. Than she tells me "oh, by the way there's a recall outstanding on the car. We'll take care of that too". When I ask what the recall is for she says the recall is on a pulley. I say.... you mean a pulley on the front of the engine, she says yes. You got to be kidding me I say. I'm putting up with this noise, which is probably the pulley since this is in the vicinity of the noise ... don't you send a notice out when theres a recall? No answer...

I then ask her what's involved with a service E and she says when I bring it in they'll discuss it with me... I wonder if we will have to sit under Maxwell Smart's "Cone of Silence" to discuss Service E, but she did tell when I asked the cost... it ranges between $250 and $340 depending upon what you need done. Don't schedule me for a Service E I tell here. I really felt like telling her I'm not ready for a Service "F", we've never met before.

Look... I tell her just fix the recall item, and fix the noise problem. Ok thanks for calling.

I get a service confirmation by email:

Car Wash

Hmmm, I think to myself. What are they charging me for the Car wash?

So I email service back... Please DO NOT WASH MY CAR.

My wife see's their reply about the car wash and she says to me... what's wrong with you? Your sick! Why don't you want them to wash the car?

Remember that free service when we bought the car I ask her... She says yes. Do you know that the car was given back to us dirtier then when I brought it in. She says your F''k'd up.

Maybe so I told her but it took me 5 hours to get the freakin water spots out of the finish after their (Mercedes Benz Complimentry) "Car Wash".

Your so sick and she walks off....

Well anyway.... did any if you receive a notice of this recall?

I didn't think it was a recall, though it was a TSB - which is one step lower on the MB food chain, and is "done as required" - so no notice.

I feel your pain on the wash, I've tried to keep the dealers off my finish as much as possible.

Service E simply means the shop needs to book 5 hours of time. The car tells them what service codes they need to perform.

Service A = 1 hr
Service B = 2 hrs
