Previous owner's Nav destinations?

So I may be a bit more obsessive than most owners here...maybe just a bit, but when I got the car one of the first things I did was pull up the last 50 destinations targeted in the Nav by the previous owner. Turns out, you can learn a lot about an owner this way

I found out this guy/gal must have loved Denny's restaurants. I count 8 Denny's inputs, including 6 unique locations!

Secondly, and maybe more importantly is gas. I count 10 Chevron inputs and 1 Shell. Makes me feel good that the last owner used top tier gas.

Did anyone else look at the last owner's Nav destinations? I thought it would be an interesting topic.

Along these lines, I'm sure most of you are aware that you should never store your home address under the "Home" button. If your car were to be stolen the thief now has your home address and, probably through your homelink, easy access to your house.

Instead you should store the address of the nearest police station

My cars previous owner was a golfer. There were several golf clubs in a rather prosperous part of the Thames valley listed.

In my particular situation the HOME button saved my ass. It was after Hurricane Wilma, I think, and they closed causeways to the beach down to anyone who did not live there. I left my wallet at the house and went back to get it and they would not let me back on the causeway. I was able to prove to them I lived there by pressing HOME and having the addess come up.

In my situation, it doesn't matter. Being built in 1925, my garage is attached to the house but has no enterances to it. You must go out the garage's side door, along a covered Loggia and then key unlock the side house door.

If my car is stolen, it's electrics will be cut to disable the On-Star, and it will be loaded in a box for Columbia or somewhere.

Everytime I take a loaner car back to the dealer, or a rental car back, I delete all the previous destinations as part of habit.

The next owner of my car will not get the previous destinations, but they will get a DVD including scans of pictures, original window sticker, order form (as well as paper) and even dumps of the MBUSA SLK web site that year, history of the car, etc.

My recently acquired SLK came from via California. In the presets were a home address in Beverly Hills, Universal Sutdio Lot, stores on Rodeo Drive, bank, gas stations in that area and a nice place in Palm Springs.

No idea who owned it before, but out of curiosity would like to find out......

You're absolutely right! What I've done for my wife's GPS is program the HOME button to an intersection close by, not right in front of the house. That way if she gets lost, she can get back to a familiar area and if a thief had it, it would do no good to them.

I was similarly intrigued when I got my SLK earlier this year. It came from the DC area and there was a foreign embassy saved as a frequent destination. From CarFax I indentified the original dealership and from their website I found that they specialize in assisting diplomats leasing while they are here.

All this leads me to believe my car's previous owner was a foreign spy with diplomatic immunity but I haven't been able to locate the secret compartment with stolen documents yet

You make a good point on the Home address location Brian - but it does seem to me that my registration and insurance documents in my glove box probably have that information on it as well . In my case they would still need to get by the house alarm and I'll need to check that out. Thanks for the tip.

You should maintain a PO Box for registration and insurance mailing addresses.

SLK_cop (stupid icon thingy), You can always still program your home address in but name it something else that would make it indistinguishable.

Odder than the gps locations is one thing that happened with a friend of mine. The previous owner left all the calls and sms in the memory Comand unit.

This is similar to what I have for my "Home" preset in my iPhone. Although if I actually did lose my phone, I have a LOT more to worry about than just my home address on there.

Perhaps we are fortunate to have SLK's with a NAV system that can't identify a specific address - only what side of the street the address is located and if you are close by...... Good suggestion re Home button. Thanks.

I got a call from TeleAid that my alarm was going off on my car. I said, no it isn't I'm in it. They were calling about what was left of my 2005 and gave me the phone number of the new owner, but I unfortunatly did not write it down.

Shame too, as they would be well off to be aware of what happened to that car, and to unload it if possible.

It could be quite good fun if you bought a car which had belonged to someone with a lot of attractive girl-friends!
