I was killed tonight

I took my wife's SLK350 to a Surveying meeting, and when we walked out after the meeting one of the guys saw the car & asked if it was a Miata.

But you know, it's a lot like the fake Rolex issue. The folks who know the difference can spot them from a distance. And the folks who don't know the difference never will. And what's really important is that YOU know the difference and are happy with the car. I owned a Miata a few years ago and it was a great little car for a great price. Many people are very happy with them. But it's no SLK...

I work in IT and I say the same things about people that have laptops and haven't a clue about wireless and other things. But, it is job security.

Was it VERY dark when the meeting ended? And then, some people don't know anything about cars. Not long ago, My SLK 280 and Honda S 2000 were parked side beside in my garage. A guy (who is not a "car guy" was over for a visit and noticed those two cars and said "why did you buy two cars just alike?" Well, they drive NOTHING alike, and I took him on a couple of rides and showed him.

It wasn't that dark and we only had a couple beers, I think he puts all 2 seat sports cars in the "Chick Car" category.

I think you would have to be from another planet to mistake a 350 for a miata

When I had a Vette, one of the guys who left a meeting (video production group) at the same time as me saw my car in the parking lot and no idea what it was. He said "Is that a sports car?" (LOL!)

WTF, a Vette??? I thought every guy knew what that was! Well, maybe not all the granola-crunching, Birkenstock-wearing, NPR-listening, rusty-Subaru-driving Greenpeace-oids, LOL!

Were there drugs available at the meeting (ducks)

Seriously how can people confuse cars like that. The worse i've heard is a girl mistaking a Ferrari for a Corvette.

Some folks are just "car ignorant." They can't distinguish between different cars of similar size and shape. They just don't care much about cars, as we do. Some of these folks may listen to NPR and be Sierra Club members -- but many such folks are very car savvy. On the other hand, many NRA members can tell a Vette from a Jaguar. We can't take it personally, but stories like this are funny!

LOL! Tru dat, I just thought it would be amusing to indulge in stereotypes, because so many of them come true in real life.

As an Endowment Member of NRA, I can most definitely distinguish a Vette from a Jag, but I sometimes have trouble telling the plethora of compact polymer .45s apart, let alone all those AR-15 lookalikes, LOL!

I don't take it personally, but gosh, my 90-y.o. mom knows what a Vette is (and I knew from the age of 3), so I just do a double-take when somebody comes off as clueless.

Those people most likely drive corollas and camrys...you know, the car as appliance people...

the analogy would be to ask us to identify refrigerators and clothes dryer brands and models without looking at the badge/lettering (and yes, they do have design trends, themes and concepts).

I'll bet the majority here only know that their washing machine is a front load or top load, and probably can't remember the brand unless you bought it recently...(some guys here probably don't even know where the washing machine is......).

I have a washing machine? I wondered how the clothes got back in the closet, but never really thought about it...

I was talking to someone a few years ago who claimed that he picked up a girl in a club and drove her home in his Ferrari 550. He said that as she got out of the car, she asked him if was a Toyota!! . He claims he sold the car the next day and got another Porsche.......

An old Mazda B2200, so I guess he is not a car guy.
