Is it just me or??

Yesterday I became the mum to a 2003 SLK320. She is a gorgeous girl! So the dealership was about an hour from the house. I get in and start to drive home. I understand im now driving on the ground [compared to my jeep] but is it just me or does the entire world just:

a. automatically stare and
b. instantly try to pass you?

It just seemed like EVERYONE from the chevy to the cadillac was chomping at the bit to pass me. I wasn't driving like a grandmother, and I wasn't blazing a new trail. No matter what speed I went people rode my a$$ and just had to pass me . Does anyone else experience that?

Welcome from Houston, TX! Congratulations with your new baby! I bet you have some power under your hood . Next time hit the gas =)
But I must say that driving SLK and a truck is different. After driving my car for so many years I now tend to drive my friend's 2012 Ford F150 from time to time. It's a totally different experience. When I'm in the truck and go at 70 mph on the highway it seems as if I'm crawling at 50 mph. However when going 70 in my SLK I can see that it's pretty fast. It's just the perception of speed that changes.

Ahem, while you are new Miss, perhaps you might post a foto on the SLK ladies thread. I suspect a combination of cute and car may be the root of your problem. Good for you for not taking the bait and putting your baby in harms way, Mom.

Simply put, they are jealous. Enjoy!

Hi and welcome to the forum!!

I am a female Benz owner coming up from lowly beginnings so yep there is some getting used to it.

YES they stare at you because you are a lady driving a Benz which = HOT!!!!! I dunno about other places but now here in small town SC I have a aura of coolness about me (band kids tell me that). And in Ballentyne = $$$$ I am now accepted since most of them folks drive MB, Audi, or Maserati. Also maybe the starers dream of driving your car while being stuck in the family van.

The passing thing. The MB speaks for itself. I think most folks just need to feel powerful against the MB experience. I drive and they fall in line behind me.

I also get stared at when I get out of my car shopping at BI-LO or KMART. I don't know what they expect to see when I get out but I am just me....not a movie star. Need to drive something to get the cat food and 6 pack of socks.

Enjoy the stature your car brings to you. Let the dreamers dream. I do a lot more waving since I got this car. Smile at the gawkers....then nail it!!!

Hi and welcome from SW Florida. I'm a (older) lady SLK driver. I also notice that it seems everyone has to pass me and then just cut in front of me. I always drive the speed limit, not Slo-Mo. I think our cars are real head turners. They must all be very jealous. Also get many compliments on my car. And I still smile every day just seeing "her" in my garage !! Enjoy your new baby.
