Curb Killer :( totaled slk55 amg

Hey you all, its been a while! I still check the forums every so often. Just been busy with college stuff.

So during Winter Break, I sneaked out the house to drive my 06 slk55 AMG around 4 am. Very little to no traffic + hardly any cops = fun time. Sadly, that night, was definitely NOT fun time.

I did a few 0-60/0-100 runs. I then got onto the freeway (with my radar detector attached) I did a top speed run. Managed to get up to 160mph (no performance package). Not sure how I managed this if the speed is limited at 155. (Perhaps I was going slightly downhill)

I see a cop ahead and slow down to the speed limit (60mph). I let him get far ahead, and this is where I made the dumbest and most irresponsible decision in my life. I sped back up to about 155mph and sped right past the cop, knowing that an exit would come up soon and I would be gone before he could even catch up. It literally took him a good 10 seconds to realize what was going on and far back in my rear view mirror I see him finally turn on his siren lights.

I take the first exit around a bend where he can't see me exit. The light ahead was red and I panicked, not sure if I should run it. (oh the irony) and I decide to make a right turn at the last minute. Went in too fast and had massive understeer, sliding right into median separating the two lanes.

Good thing? I got away from the cop.
Bad thing? The front wheel went over the curb, cracked the front bumper. It didn't look too bad, but further examination at a body shop revealed the axle or some other bottom component had been knocked upward into the engine. Even if we got it fixed it would never run the same. (so said the Mercedes Benz specialist that checked out the car.)

Luckily, my mom (oh my ever so loving, and generous, sweet mother. How I love her so) decided she would just get me another one.

This one is another 06, about 25k miles (compared to 33k on my first one). Black with black/red interior. This one has the performance package. It also has a k40 police radar integrated in the dash. Lucky? Sure, some could say. Spoiled? Perhaps. But trust me, I have learned from my mistakes. I've been driving a lot more respectfully and cautiously than before. Never will I ever do something so stupid again. We just bought the car yesterday and I've only gotten a chance to drive it twice (From Austin to Houston) and around town in Houston today. Gotta wait until Easter to take it back to college with me.

Anyways...Here are some pictures of the damage to first car. I haven't gotten a chance to take any of the new one.

Kid you sound like one of my best friends. He ran from the cops like he always did but didn't get away with it. Apparently he didn't learn from it and He ran from the same cop a month later and totaled his car in the process. He got into more crap last year but we're getting old... at the age of 23 . So hopefully he won't do anything else. I ran from a cop myself a few years back and got away with it. I've learned to watch my speed, well at least where I speed. Just be more careful with this one cause its a lot more special than your last. You are pretty lucky that you didn't get hurt.

Sounds like you need a race track rather than public streets. Too bad about your mother not caring for you. Fortunate that there was no innocent people involved. On the plus side I think Darwinian natural selection will prevail so no real issues.

Maybe you have forgotten when you wrote this:

"By the way; when I first started driving my Toyota Celica, the front right wheel's thread was worn and lost traction and sent my car into a spin out on the freeway. I was facing the oncoming traffic (heavy traffic mind you) but I was able to spin the car the right way and ended up perfectly in the lane I was trying to get in in the first place. Either I'm lucky, it was God's will, or I am a prodigy stunt driver; I don't think I will be crashing any car any time soon. lmao "

Very prophetic. It would be very generous of you to let us know when you are driving so we can stay home.

The most irresponsible bit of parenting I think I've ever heard!
I am, however, pleased you didn't kill yourself or anyone else in the process.

I can't help feeling you are not going to learn from this experience though, as you are actually suffering no real consequences for your actions.
Most other less fortunate kids would at least be without there car while it was being repaired and feeling the pain of having a trashed pride and joy.

Don't get me wrong ... I hope you DO learn from this. I've always said that the majority of young drivers will have at least one incident before they 'calm down', but yours was just ridiculous & predictable.

Put a photo of the damage in your new car where hopefully it will serve as a constant reminder - and may save a life (possibly your own).

(N.B. This is meant as a constructive comment, not an attack on you.)

I wasnt going to comment but as others have I will. This is a case of a spoiled kid with parents who have more money than sense. I just hope for their case they are not following a hearse one day, realising they killed their kid by pandering to his stupidity

"The most irresponsible bit of parenting I think I've ever heard!"

I agree completely. Buying another powerful car just after the progeny has driven with utter contempt of the law and to the safety of others seems monumentally stupid.
