One key two cars

Here a question for people who have Star. Can a key flop be programmed to be used in two different MB cars. I am not talking about the actual key but just the flop. If a person has two MB then one key from one car to be programmed to work in the second car. Then you would only need to carry around one key flop and not matter which car you get in it would work.

I do not know about the ignition. I do know the RF section uses a rolling code which could not be used on two cars.

Do not use IR so that is no problem. SLK has Smart Top and GLA use only RF. If programmed one would think the rolling code would work on both. Garage doors use rolling code and I have like 5 different garage door remotes that work a single door.

What could happen click the remove and the doors on both cars if in range would lock or unlock at the same time. But if doors are not opened in a short time they would re-lock themselves.

What you have to understand is you do not use one opener on multiple doors – you use multiple openers (like multiple keys) on a single door. Every time you click the RF keyfob up a new code is sent. There is a range of codes approximately 250 to either side of the sequence that the receiver (garage door or car) is willing to accept. Once you're out of that sequence, you need to re-synchronize the transmitter with the receiver. That is why if you really want to mess with somebody, and you can have their key fob your hand, just click it about 200-300 times and it will stop working for the car or garage door. The exact number of times depends on the implementation of the rolling cole protocol for that particular transmitter receiver pair.

If have two garages doors that have openers and the two cars and the 3 handheld remotes have two or tree buttons and they all open the two garage doors with no problem as the garage doors use rolling codes. Button 1 open door 1 and button 2 opens door 2 on each of the five openers be it car or handheld. If what you said this would not work if I read it correctly. Do not have to re-sync after using any remotes. My daughter is over 650 miles away and when I visit her a few time a year the third button is programmed to open one of her garage doors even after many months of her using her remote daily.
