General level of information and advice regarding Xentry/Das

Hi Gang
Ok, I have read Wollys post on this, and im trying to understand, why this forum, will delete/remove advise etc regarding this?
There is clearly a disclaimer within the thread, so whats the big deal?
Im starting to wander along this road now, and would gladly post all that I am learning on this subject.
People want to sell you software and multiplexers you do not need if you just wish to escape the overpriced clutches of MBMD over the car communication.
In fact the only reason I am taking the Das (2005 slk) yellow brick road, is because of blatant fraud acts by MBMD over this very issue.
But this section is very tight lipped and frankly not that helpful.
Unless MB themselves are funding this website, why are we sucking up to Mercedes, its been done so you cannot repair many issues at home, just the parts are expensive enough...what am I missing here?
Kev

Hi Kev

We'll help out and advise on here as much as we can - there's a few of us who use these fairly regularly ...

What we don't discuss or get involved in is the purchase of the kit - what and where to get if from.

Help and advice on how to actually use it (wherever it came from) is fine...

There are disclaimers on the forum subsections for this as it's a complex and dangerous tool than CAN really ruin your day if it's used incorrectly

Hope this makes sense..

Cheers
Sean

Hi Sean
Yes absolutely positively understand that part of it, and understand that there are people out there that would put a package together, plug in, flick into developer mode in an untrained and ill advised fashion, and think they can now make there benz go 200mph and operate the roof at the same time, while bricking every system on the car...we have all worked with people like that im sure...hehe

No my main gripe is other things, C3 Mux is all I need for the 2005 SLK, I guess my frustration is its taken me hours and hours and hours of reading to kinda find that out.
Also made the discovery on the minimum software and version I need to do the job I need to do, and whilst I kinda do not expect everyone to wipe my nose for me, I could of been pointed in the right direction fairly quickly and saved hours of reading, maybe if you are going to venture into it abit, maybe thats all part and parcel..idk

Just found it all very interesting and would love to share this element of owning an SLK, and help people break away from what amounts to highway robbery from car manufacturers, its not about making pocket money on the side, its about being able to look after your own car I guess......or maybe male menopause, anyway you know what im saying regards the internal outlook on this issue, makes for a busy website ive noticed elsewhere....and there enquish is terrible taboot...eek

The mods here have to walk a bit of a fine line - on the one hand, I'm sure they want to facilitate the sharing of information. On the other hand, the legality of the clone hardware muxes is probably questionable and the DAS/Xentry software that runs on the laptop would be very difficult to come by in a 100% legal, fully licensed manner.

So you can see why they might err on the side of caution when wading into discussions about which clone mux you should get and what version of DAS/Xentry you should use on it.

When all else fails, there is always the option of a PM...

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Bac
yes you are right, coupled with the fact ive been here 10 minutes, I will ask a couple of burning ones, that i cannot seem to get a straight answer on from anywhere at mo.
Did not want to PM to much, as im sure it can be annoying sometimes, apart from the Sean one taking off in his helicopter from LIDLs (supermaket) car park...still cracks me up that one..
Mr Benz gave me a mux out of sympathy, proper result, the Dell 630 I found in a skip.....hahaha
