Hi all

Firstly, read and re-read the sticky for this subsection from Woolly.

Secondly, the information listed on the post has been tested and works as per the description. Provided the steps are followed and you have an understanding of how DAS / Xentry works then you'll have no problems applying the coding and making the required changes.

Things can go horribly wrong IF you do the wrong thing - if in doubt, don't do it and seek advice.....

Remember, the information offered here is 'as is' - it's up to you to make sure any changes you make don't contravene any local laws etc etc

I'll provide the steps to follow - this already assumes that you have the car hooked up, DAS / Xentry already running and have selected the correct model / engine for YOUR car, and the steps start from CONTROL UNITS which is one of the MAIN GROUPS

If the coding requires (or is the result of adding or retrofitting) extra hardware to the car - for example, adding rain sensing wipers, power folding mirrors, TPMS, Comand, Airscarf etc etc then the assumption is made that the necessary hardware is already installed....

Enabling both rear foglights

Got to

BODY ---> REAR SAM ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> CODING OF CONTROL MODULE REAR SAM

Change Rear Foglight to BOTH REAR FOG LAMPS

F3 to accept the changes, followed by F3 (Yes) to transfer the coding to the control unit. F2 to go back to the REAR SAM section, and then F1all the way back to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS

Enabling Cornering Fogs

Got to

BODY ---> SAM-F ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> READ CODING AND CHANGE IF NECESSARY

Change Turning Lamps to PRESENT

F3 to accept the changes, followed by F3 (Yes) to transfer the coding to the control unit. F2 to go back to the SAM-F section, and then F1all the way back to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS

Enabling rain sensing wipers - hardware needed

Got to

BODY ---> OCP ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> LIGHT SENSOR ---> PARAMETERIZATION AND WINDSHIELD ADAPTATION - F2 to accept the softwsre type message

Change Parameter to RAIN/LIGHT SENSOR SOFTWARE STATUS S28 (Note, other values may also work for you here)

Change Windshiled Version (Transmission Value) to the one that matches YOUR CAR - the last four digits of the object number are found on the the windshield underneath the windshiled stamp barcode

Codes are as follows..

Light and rain sensor
A 171 820 15 26 (code setting 28)
A 171 820 37 26 (code setting 30)
A 171 820 39 26 (code setting 32)
A 171 820 54 26 (code setting 53)

Light sensor only

A 171 820 30 26 (code setting 28)
A 171 820 38 26 (code setting 30)
A 171 820 40 26 (code setting 32)

F3 to accept the changes, followed by F3 (Yes) to transfer the coding to the control unit. F2 to go back to the OCP section, and then F1all the way back to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS

Then you'll need a second step

Go to

BODY ---> CGW ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> READ CODING AND CHANGE IF NECESSARY ---> ALL CODES

Change Rain Sensor to PRESENT

Enabling Dimming Interior Mirror - Hardware needed

Got to

BODY ---> CGW ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> READ CODING AND CHANGE IF NECESSARY ---> ALL CODES

Change Interior and Exterior mirror dimming to PRESENT

F3 to accept the changes, followed by F3 (Yes) to transfer the coding to the control unit. F2 to go back to theCGW section, and then F1all the way back to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS

Enabling the 'dumb' rotational based Tire Pressure Warning

Got to

BODY ---> CGW ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> READ CODING AND CHANGE IF NECESSARY ---> ALL CODES

Change Tire Pressure Loss Warner to PRESENT

F3 to accept the changes, followed by F3 (Yes) to transfer the coding to the control unit. F2 to go back to the CGW section, and then F1all the way back to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS

Then you'll need a second step

Go to

BODY ---> CHASSIS ---> ESP ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> TIRE PRESSURE LOSS WARNER (ACTIVATING)

F4 to switch the system on, followed by F12 to reactivate it .

F2 to accept the changes, and then F1all the way back to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS. You may get ESP / BAS errors on the upper MFD - turn the ignition off then on again to clear these...

Displaying temperature in the lower MFD

Go to

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION ---> INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ---> DIAGNOSIS TO PLANT SPECIFICATIONS ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> VARIANT CODING ---> READ CODING AND CHANGE IF NECESSARY

Set the UK VARIANTE to AUS

The instrument cluster will also need to be reset for this change to take, and thats done as follows..

From the above, save the changes and F1 back to the main INSTRUMENT CLUSTER menu

Go to

ACTUATIONS ---> CONTROL MODULE RESET

F3 to reset the cluster, F3 to ok the process and click OK once complete. F2 back to the ACTUATIONS menu, and then F1 to go back all the way to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS.The IC will perform a reset, the clock will reset it'self and then switch the ignition off, then back on again.

There are a couple of MFD menus that you may want to activate for this one too, and this is done from the Developer variant coding section

I need to pop out to the car to confirm the exact steps (I'll sort this shortly), and they give you the following extra's in the settings menu on the upper MFD (if you don't already have them)

The ability to change the DISTANCE units
The ability to change the TEMPERATURE units
The ability to change TEMPERATURE and SPEED around in the lower MFD

Enabling Gallons remaining in the UPPER MFD

Go to

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION ---> INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ---> DIAGNOSIS TO PLANT SPECIFICATIONS ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> VARIANT CODING ---> READ CODING AND CHANGE IF NECESSARY

Set TANKINFO in REICHWEITENBILD to ENABLE

The instrument cluster will also need to be reset for this change to take, and thats done as follows..

From the above, save the changes and F1 back to the main INSTRUMENT CLUSTER menu

Go to

ACTUATIONS ---> CONTROL MODULE RESET

F3 to reset the cluster, F3 to ok the process and click OK once complete. F2 back to the ACTUATIONS menu, and then F1 to go back all the way to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS. The IC will perform a reset, the clock will reset it'self and then switch the ignition off, then back on again.

Enabling the Telephone Buttons on the steering wheel (for those who have changed out from an Audio 20 (or othe MB headunit that DIDN't have phone prep) to an aftermarket headunit with a steering wheel control module.

Go to

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION ---> INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ---> CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS ---> CUSTOMER SPECIFIC SETTINGS

F2 to accept the SCN message

Change IPOD: OPERATION VIA MULTIFUNCTION STEERING WHEEL to POSSIBLE

F5 to write the changes to the car, F3 to start the transfer, F2 when complete, OK the reset message (if you get it) and F2 back to CONTROL UNNIT ADAPTATIONS.
F1 back to CONTROL UNIT GROUPS

More to follow....

I was planning to ask you about how to enable remaining fuel on dash.
This seems to be the perfect place :)

FUEL OCTANE SETTING STAR DAS Tips and Tricks - MBWorld.org Forums

Heres one that MAY have a positive performance impact, or may not.

Control Units > Drive > Motor Electronics > F3 ( to clear the nag warning ) > Control unit adaptations > Correction Programming > Ignition

You get 4 choice of minimum octane rating ( probably get more if you can get Variant Coding to change from USA to Rest Of World or Euro )
Baseline ( 87?)
89
91
93

I suspect setting a higher octane rating will allow a bit more initial ignition advance.

Reset 7G-Tronic shift adaptations (for real!)

Unlike the pressing the accelerator and turning the ignition switch (which is an ECU trick), this will actually reset the transmission's learned shift behaviour:

Update ...

Added the following tweaks

Temperature display in the lower MFD
Gallons remaining int he upper MFD
Enabling the phone buttons on the steering wheel
Windscreen (Windshield) codes added for the rain & light and light only sensors

Had a good poke through DAS over the last few days, and can see nothing that'll do that ...

Changing the location to ROW gers rid of both front and rear....

A possibility is to remove the bulbs / wiring from the holder and secure it up in the space in front of the wheel arch cover .That way the bulb is still there and working as far as the car is concerned, but not visible to anyone ... (bit of a hack, but it may be your only option)

It's a different mode of DAS, thats all

Allows access to more complex stuff .. along with more potential to make a hash of things too
