030 brakes...

I'm going to need to replace my rotors soon (well not that soon but I like to plan ahead) and I was thinking of getting light weight evosport rotors. I had a question about he 030 brakes though, what is different? Is it just bigger rotors or are the calipers different also? If I bought the rotors would I need to also upgrade the calipers? Is this even worth it?

what year is your car? the earliest versions of the brakes were identical, then in the middle they changed the part numbers, but the items were essentially the same, then after 2007, the non-030s had smaller brakes, and the 030s had the nice 6 pistons...

IIRC, Dan said the 030 brakes are the same as those on the pre-MY2008 SLK 55. No need to change calipers.

So basically the only difference between the 030 brakes and mine are just larger rotors?

No, there is no difference at all.

Oh really so I have the same brakes that come with the 030 package?! Hmmm then I guess I'll just go with evosport once they finish producing the new brakes!

I think CJ currently has standard 6 piston brakes. I also think he is inquiring if he should upgrade to the 030 rotors when his stock rotors need replacing.

Assuming I'm correct... I think the only difference with the 030 package is in fact larger rotors. I recall one forum member that had his rotors replaced and the dealership accidentally switched them to 030 rotors. IIRC, aside from the larger front rotor, there was no other difference in the brakes.

Thanks Dan for clarifying everything for me!

Thank you Dan for verifying this was true! As of now its between the 030 brakes or evosport but I dont think have created that double wall front brake yet.

sorry for reviving an old thread, but i just want to confirm that this is true... 030 cars have 360mm front brakes right? what size are the brakes on the pre-2008 non-030 cars? My car has 6 piston calipers, but i dont think my rotors are 360mm. Also, if you were to fit 360mm rotors, you would have to space out the caliper...

I would like to know the part #'s for the 030 rotors as I'm thinking of getting them rather then the regular my05-08 part.

The standard replacement rotors for MY '05 are PN# 171 421 01 12 and I found a place selling them for $487.50 each.

Your correct early 6 pots use 340mm rotors. The 360mm came in with the Black series. A 360 rotor can be fitted but needs caliper spacers - easy. whether a late facelift 030 uses 340mm or 360mm i dont know.

As Legin says, the 340mm where "standard" on the AMG's until mid 2007 - the introduction of the MY08 cars - and part number A1714210112.

The P98 option - the Black Series - and all 030 cars are spec'ced with A2094210112 as the front rotor. I can't find details anywhere on this other than an obscure article on Piston Heads that says they are 360's.

The MY2008 "downgrade" uses A2034210912 as the fronts, with A2094210112 as the "030" option brakes.

EDITED : Finally! I knew I had it **somewhere**! ;-)

AMG high performance composite brake system: internally ventilated, composite front brake discs measuring 360 x 32 mm with 6-piston fixed calipers on front axle and perforated rear brake discs.

ok so having a 360mm rotor would require a 19" rim, would it not?

I don't think so - seeing as the 030 '55 have 18's.

are these the right rotors for the 030 package?

also, found these rotors, i'm assuming those are for the pre-08 6 piston calipers?

weird stuff...

Rotor, slk55 amg, w/sport package
07-10 $820.00 $649.25

Rotor, slk55 amg, w/o sport package
07-10 $134.00 $106.00

i guess their listing is wrong, since the price is the same for the rotors on the 07-10 cars w/out the sport package as it is for 05-06 cars... i guess if i ordered the rotors for the 05-06 cars i would get the wrong ones

That's the right part number for the front 030's. That seems like *way* too good a price for the 340mm rotors, though - retail is $650.

No, as i mentioned in another thread and quite possibly to a different user , the clearance is determined by the caliper, as the caliper remains unchanged in both cases the wheel diameter is irrelivent.
