80k check list

Hello everyone. Just bought an '05 slk55 with 79k miles. Previous owner had no service records but said oil was changed every 2.5k miles [Mobile 1], and has new tires and 4 wheel alignment. Runs great. For a start i was thinking taking to MB dealer for brake flush and tranny oil/filter change. Maybe gas filter to. I haven't found a indie MB specialist yet so i'll probably overpay for this. Am i missing else to do/ check for?

Coolant flush
Differential oil
Spark plugs, as they are hard to remove and sometimes they change just the easy ones.
Steering wheel pump oil
Accessory belt and pulleys.

Thanks forgot about power steering fluid. I was planning on holding off on plugs as its running great and diff and do them with coolant flush at 80k miles. Guess i'll have them check belts and change as necessary. I'm sure this will cost a bundle.

Take a good hard look at the brake pads and rotors. You shouldn’t need a fuel filter change though. Air filters, both cabin and engine. Smart top. Gummi the rubber. A good inspection of the motor mounts and transmission mounts would probably be in order. Absolutely check the valve cover gaskets. Also the gasket on the centrifugal oil separator. These gaskets are some of the early ones that tend to seep.

You can save a lot of money by doing the job yourself (most of them), you will find most of the diy here.

Yes got owners manual and got some maint checkpoints on line. Been looking at one online, its a long read and very boring and repetative. Would like to get a service manual but haven't located one yet. Do they make hardcopy or just dvd based? Would like to get code reader/diag obd type tester if there not too pricy.

Thanks Mensra appreciate the info although this is going to get expensive at MB's rates. I'd like to start doing some maintenance myself but want to get off to a good start. Some local mechanics seem to fear or despise MB's as an almost unmaintainable car after warranty is over. I avoided the sl55 and 550 but think the slk is much easier to maintain.

Most of what I listed above you can do yourself with a flashlight. Air filters you can change yourself, motor mounts, a lot of the members here have tackled themselves. You can change gaskets if you feel adventurous yourself as well. Gummi the rubber, everybody does themselves. A smart top, don’t get Sarge started on the smart top.

Have a look at the diys. Some are easy, others less so.
https://www.slkworld.com/slk-r171-class-diy/

If you cannot find an MB specialist look for German car specialist.
Many MB cover Audi and BMW and vice versa.

Seen a lot of references on Smart Top but have no idea what it is. Is it the standard HT or a mod to it?

Nooooooo! You have opened Pandora’s box! Sarge will tell you all about the smart top. Seriously though, it is probably the single most cost-effective mod you can make for this car.

ST allows you to open/close the roof or windows from quite a distance.

Walking towards the car on a hot day an absolute winner.

You can also operate the roof at up to roughly 35 mph.
Brilliant for a showery day.

See Mods4cars website.
