Also the bolts are not BS, this is common and must be observed.

Hopefully they verified the block before starting work because usually the block gets damaged.

I had a spark plug that was fuel fouled and misdiagnosed as oil fouled. It was brought to an AMG specialist who then diagnosed it as an injector that was not closing completely. When he borescoped the cylinder with the defective injector at that time he did not see any damage on the piston. 1500 miles later, I got a misfire DTC again. Brought it back to him, this time he saw a crack on the cylinder crown. The crack is approximately 2/3 of the way across the piston, centered, exactly 90° perpendicular to the wrist pin and cannot be felt with your fingers. If you’re telling me that the fuel drip from the injector cracked the piston, then Mercedes may have a problem. I found documentation online that injectors are covered for eight years or 80,000 miles which ever comes first as emission related components. Something to consider. Can you provide me with documentation that a fuel injector failure to close properly can cause a piston to crack? It would be greatly appreciated.

According to the AMG mechanic the lining was completely undamageed because I got it to him before the crack completely went through the piston. He said very few people would have been as obsessive about this type of an issue. I smiled and thought of Sarge.

I don't think there is any official documentation on this, but in general what happens is the injector sprays the prescribed quantity of fuel but only part of it is mist as a part comes out liquid. This in turn results in a lean mixture as the quantity of air is too much for the misted fuel. This will then result in pre ignition with the flame front hitting the piston before top dead center (piston on the way up), this creates stresses beyond design limits.

Is this phenomena documented somewhere?

Lots of info available on both lean conditions causing terminal engine damage and injector failures causing lean conditions. Can't recommend any particular ones as I'm some years happily divorced from textbooks.

Well f***...

Injector #8 stuck open on my m156 (CLS63) today, engine appears to have hydrolocked against the starter (I did not realize this was my problem at the time).
Still turns by hand, new injector on the way, hopefully it survives...

I didn’t have that much fuel dumped into the cylinder! The odds are you’re OK. At least the car was not running when Hydrolocked.

Well, my repair is being held up by parts. More specifically this one: A1522030017
They don’t even know what part it is! Can anybody help me get it faster than four weeks from now?
What is it, where does it go, and where can I buy one?

There you go, I get my parts from mboemparts.com (dealership in Illinois) and when I've needed parts from Germany it's never been more than two weeks.

So tell me what it does? I really don’t know why the Stealership is telling me it could be another month. I have a courtesy GLA, and they have no reason to drag this out.

I just did a dummy purchase with the link https://www.getmercedesparts.com/oem...ine-1522030017 that Jeff has in his post 51. It didn't come up with out of stock. Why don't you give them a call to see if they have the item in stock and how long to get it to you.

That seems to take coolant to the front timing case cover, it's not a single use item but maybe they broke it on disassembly?

Also forgot to mention you should be able to get Mercedes goodwill on those bolts.

Are they rebuilding your engine or did they source a rebuilt one like you mentioned before Mensra?

Edit: Nevermind I somehow missed the update that they are replacing the piston. At least (fwiw) this means you will still have matching serial numbers with thr original engine block that came with the car. I truly hope this is the last of your troubles.

M152 photographs of cracked piston repair

https://files.endofinternet.org:5001...Z-SrKAOjGFBgc_

Here are some pictures taken by the mechanic during the rebuild of my engine. I don’t think too many of us will have a chance to actually lay eyes on the guts of an M152. Other than my garbage scow, it’s my understanding this is a bulletproof engine. So not too many people will have the heads off and photographs of it.
