Quick question -

Quickie question for you do-it-yourself-improvement-wrench guys. I'm thinking about picking up a couple of those green air filters from the shop. My questions are ( and based on total mb and amg ignorance) are they going to give an improvement over the stock amg, 030 package breathing? I know better than to expect more than a 1-2hp increase; I'm actually hoping to help the car breathe a little better an increase gas mileage. The simple fact is, I have no idea what the stock air filters are like, and I havent bothered to even crack open the intakes yet. So, if any of you gurus out there could post me some info ( and maybe dyno numbers and gas comsumption figures) I would sure greatly appreciate it! Are the greens really worth it?
Just an FYI; about a half hour after I got my '00 Mustang GT, the first thing I did was drop in a K&N. I just don't know what I have in the boxes right now - and you guys probably do.
thx in advance

There's a few with green filters around, I'm sure they'll chime in. By the way, welcome to the forum.

Thanks to FishTailnZ, there are dyno numbers with OEM air filters compared to the Green Air Filters. Link: https://www.slkworld.com/general-disc...ut-inside.html

I've used the Green Air Filters on the prior 280 and the average fuel consumption improvement is about 2 mpg (combined city and highway). I am not able to compare on the 55 as I've installed the Green Air Filter within a week of taking delivery. (Bill T noticed about the same savings in his prior 55). On todays SoCal Winery Run, the 55 showed a consumption of 20.7 mpg over 262 miles (over half of these were "spirited" miles).

And the green filters sound better. Your exhaust notes will be a little throatier.

Green filters are a good investment to your slk, better than the oem filters that need to be replaced frequently.

Here is my installation thread on greens.

https://www.slkworld.com/performance-...r-install.html

The OEM filters is made of flimsy paper.

The greens are made of cotton.

Fishtallin got some hp increase with his, so I'd assume you'll get some with yours. It sounds a little throatier and gives an additional 2mpg. Can't argue with that. Get it, it's a no-brainer

And buy them here on the site through the SLKWorld store. It helps support the site a bit.

Yup, I saw a peak increase of 9hp/11tq on the dyno. But those numbers were pretty well right across the rev range, not just in a narrow band - a very worthwhile improvement for very little change IMO.

Thanx-

Thanx a bunch guys. Sure do appreciate the help, and also the "how to". I gotta say that I'm pretty surprised at the amount of power gained. I really didn't expect that much.

HA! Figures right? Ok, as soon as you get a set in - I'll try and check during the early part of this coming week; I'll order a set.

I doubt a dealer would do it but try an indy.

Even though I had a recent incident with an oil change at my MB dealer, I wouldn't trust my car to Jiffy lube. To maintain your warranty, you'll want to maintain the service schedule through the MB dealer. I would find a trusted mechanic to do out of cycle oil changes, etc.

PorschetoBenz, where are you located? If you're in SoCal, I could show you how to replace the air filters.

As -1- stated, I would rather have MB do it (oil change) if it's still under warranty. If not as Dan stated, a trusted indy (independent garage).

I'm not sure exactly what jiffy lube is? i take it they are a chain of garages with no particular brand affiliation.

I would avoid places like that, i meant as Eddy said an independent Mercedes garage and a good one is vital nothing back street.

For your warranty the service must be done to factory standard that does not mean a dealer has to do the work (as many have proven they cannot even approach the factory way of doing things) but the shop that does should be correctly trained by Merc and correctly tooled to perform the work, they will then stamp the service book for you.

Wherever you get the work done always double check the fluid levels and that all caps and covers are closed before driving off.

To be perfectly honest with you are you really not able to do this yourself? We are literally talking pulling the airbox off of the engine and loosening a few screws, you could then take your car to the dealer with instructions to leave the filters alone.
