*UPDATE* Mobil Jet Oil 387 now available

First there was Mobil Jet Oil II, then came Jet Oil 254. Now just newly released for 2016: Mobil Jet Oil 387!
Mobil Jet Oil 387 *

The 387 has been in the testing phase for about a year now, and was only available by the pallet for quart cans, until NOW.
Just received my quart can from Pilots HQ for $24.95 / qt.

Not sure why you would want to use it in your car as it's for jet turbine engines ! As is Mobil Jet 2 and 254.

Posted this in the AMG forum since most AMGs have a SuperCharger. Thus most owners know this is what is used to lube our SC!!!
I take it that you guys do change your Supercharger oil?

Here's what it looks like after only 20k.... New vs Old....

Makes sense now... Only the SLK32 has the Supercharger - the 55's are normally aspirated... (unlike the other AMG's in the MB line up)

Given the speeds and temperatures in a supercharger, the oil would need to be a fairly high spec....

Just curious, is there a viscosity or weight rating for this oil?
Is it the same as II or 254?

Well the viscosity is not measured by Society of Automotive Engineers grades for gear oils and crankcases (engines) since it serves the aircraft industry. Below are the viscosity values for Mobil Jet Oil 387. Here viscosity is a measure of the fluids resistance to flow. Water has a low viscosity of 1 cSt and honey has a very high viscosity, lets say 1,000 cSt. If a machine is heavily loaded then the machine designer will use a lubricant that resists being pushed around, which would be heavy like honey. If the machine runs very fast then the machine designer will specify a lubricant that can get out of the way, and back into the way just as quickly. Generally, machines will have either one or the other to be concerned about; sometimes both at the same time.

Mobil Jet Oil 387
Viscosity
cSt at 100C = 5.2
cSt at 40C = 25.9
cSt at -40C = 10140

I'm older so I drive fast as I have less time left to waste.
