Five x 55's

You may have read the exploits of the SLK road trip around the Lake District, England.
https://www.slkworld.com/united-kingd...15th-18th.html

On the last day of the tour we ended up as five SLK 55 AMGs.

What happens when 5 get together?

Well, you pick a couple of destinations and throw in some great roads/scenery and go. Simples.

First off a run up one of the official top ten roads in the UK to Hartside Top Caf้ for coffee and a huge slice of cake.
AMGs took over this bike haunt for a short spell.

Having fuelled ourselves we need a spot of exercise to burn off those cals.
High Force Fall it is then and another great run over the fells to get there.

Yes, I know. Just car park shots.

But shots of 5 AMGs always look good, even next to natures beauty.

So, if you are thinking of turning to an AMG for your SLK needs, do it.

We had a great weekend running through Cumbrias passes as a group of SLKs.

But Mondays run of only AMGs meant a 'hot' pace and a matched convoy.

For those who used to read the Daily Mirror. That's not Chalky White in the pics, so no fiver for you.
It is Col, our organiser and leader enjoying the fruits of an intensive weekends wind down en route home.
All our thanks go to him especially.

What does 5 x 55 make?

SERIOUS FUN!

Myk, being one of the 5, I can certainly attest to the fact that it was SERIOUS FUN, despite the brief sudden downpour on the way up to the Hartside Top Caf้!

A great day to end a fabulous weekend!

How many four lettered words you actually know if you hit 'one touch' whilst in a car wash! (Quite a few)!

None of which was the unit failing to perform.
All of which was down to us.

Driving holidays can be educational.
And only 3 of the above cock ups happened en route.

Tree and speed down to me.

It is the number one mod to do BEFORE performance in my view.

Just waiting to fit bluebadgers once her new 350 is repaired.

She HATES being without it.

She hates me even more.

I seem to 'accidently' demonstrate it at every opportunity!

"What happens if you set the speed for activation too low and pick up speed."

IIRC doing this once:
set speed to highest (60kph) during SmartTop programming a day earlier,
started from 0 (red light changed to green) whilst doing the one-click close roof button/lever maneuver, and
I gradually accelerated and reached 40 mph (64 kph) in less than 20 seconds

What happened to the roof in motion?
It stopped its movement as soon as the speed reached 61kph (38 mph),
MFD shows warning in RED,
and the alarm (I think the same one as when one has not engaged the seat belt when starting the vehicle) beeped every 1/2 second.

The motion resumed and went into completion as soon as one decelerates to below the set speed, and
the alarm shut off and the MFD warning on roof in motion stopped.

This is also where I learned that the MFD is not monochrome but can change color from white (on black background) to red, in critical/safety related warnings: e.g., car in motion with hood/bonnet lid not in fully closed position, car in motion with trunk/boot lid not in fully closed position. (please do not ask how I found out )

My only regret was not putting the roof back down when we slowed on the run to High Force. Was cooking when the sun came back out and travelling far to quickly to do it by then.

Yep, did the roof not finished in the early days of smarttop.
Was 'nice' to see a third colour in the centre dash.

This one the roof was closed. So it didn't alarm.
The rear quarters were still down.
The draughty noise alerted me.

It also flipped after driving through serious floods. I suspect the canbus got some damp. I had to get into the car after wading a stream and never thought through the consequences.
Floods and lightning do that to the thought process.
The one touch became a hold onto button for a couple of weeks.

All the errors have been learning curve and no fault of the system.
(wonder who told me the roof carrys on over the limit once started?).

I didn't think the smart' was so vital. Holding the button never really bothered me.

But once it was on I was more than hooked.
To the point of preaching about it to Newbies every time I think on.

#1 mod in my book.
