Factory Recommended Tire/Tyre Pressure

In the latest issue of The Star magazine (Mercedes-Benz Club of America) a technical article on tires made the following statement:
Quote:
In the United States, Mercedes-Benzes recommends a pressure that is at the low end of the safe range in order to provide the softer ride that many Americans are accustomed to in luxury cars. ……..
As a general guide, adding 3-5 PSI more than the Mercedes-recommended pressure will produce better turning and braking response, though at the cost of a slightly firmer ride.
This got me wondering if this really holds true for my 06 SLK55 AMG. One would think that even “Americans” would expect a firmer ride on their AMG cars. From the label on my door the recommended pressures are: Front = 220 KPA/ 32 PSI and Rear = 240KPA/35 PSI. So from my European brethren, what is the recommended “tyre” pressure shown for your SLK55 AMG? Thanks.

Bob

What does the sticker say (on the fuel lid/cover) on UK or Euro-spec SLK55 AMG?

Thank you gentlemen. As I suspected for the AMG there is no reduction.

Question Door sill sticker

I have an 06 SLK55 and the door sill sticker calls for a cold pressure of 36 front and 39 rear. The sticker on the fuel door says 32 front and 35 rear.

I generally add 10% over sticker. I mentioned this in a thread yesterday actually. To some extent it depends on your particular tyres, the quality of the roads you drive on and your driving preference.

Maybe take a closer look: My door sticker shows cold pressure only: 32 and 35. My fuel door shows 4 numbers: 32 and 35 cold and 36 and 39 warm. There is a note to add 4 PSI for warm tires.

Gordon.

I always take the middle between the sticker (as minimum) and the max PSI listed on the tire.

Old thread, common question. Besides ride comfort, tire pressure is a simple way to tune the handling of our cars. Here is a handy chart that covers simple (and not so simple) things we can to do adjust the way our cars behave when pushed a bit.
