Oil Filter

I need an oil filter for my SLK55, but my Mercedes Dealer only has the paper filters. Do they make a Fleece filter for the 2006 SLK55? While doing a few searches I came up with a Mann HU 715/6X, but that one appears to be paper as well.

I read that, that's where I got the mann part number from. I was wondering if there was a fleece version of it.

Last year I ordered an oil filter from a MB dealer and got one for my SLK55 AMG. The box had MB logo and everything on it. Recently I ordered the Mann oil filter (the correct size) from Amazon and it looked identical (from my memory since the one from the MB dealer was already installed on my SLK55 AMG last year).

I don't know about an actual "fleece" oil filter from MB dealer for the SLK55 AMG? Is the one from MB dealer "fleece" for the SLK55 AMG?

I think the one from the MB dealer is the same one and has the same material as the one from Mann (the correct size one, of course). Fleece or not fleece, that is the question?

Does any one know?

The one from the dealer is paper. Good rule of thumb is, if it's yellow in color it's paper, if it's white it's fleece.

Hummmm............. That is interesting. I thought MB officially recommends "Fleece" oil filter for ALL MB cars???? So why are the MB dealers (MB) selling non-fleece oil filters?

Anyone know?

Pics for the oil filter comparison added

I went to an MB dealer and bought the oil filter for my 2006 SLK55 AMG. I took it home and compared to the Mann filter that I got from Amazon. It looked exactly the same size, but there are differences.

BOTH looked to me of the paper (brown) type and definitely NOT FLEECE!! I specifically asked the MB dealer to make sure they got the correct part. They confirmed it and it was definitely for the 2006 SLK55 AMG.

I compared to the one I had used last year when I changed my oil filter on the SLK55 AMG............the outside box had the same identical part numbers and everything.

I will post pic when I get a chance.

Here are the pics:

Anybody out there know if MB officially carries the FLEECE OIL FILTER FOR THE SLK55 AMG?????

Seems like MB does not carry the FLEECE OIL FILTER FOR THE SLK55 AMG? MB has FLEECE OIL FILTER FOR THE NON-AMG SLK'S.

If this why the service interval for oil change is shorter for the SLK55 AMG versus the non AMG SLK's????

So I'm confused here - the part number for the '350 oil filter and the '55 oil filter from WIS is the same - A0001802609.

I've not changed the oil myself on the '55s, but have on the '350, and used a MANN fleece filter from the OEM cross reference manual..

From MB service invoice data (5 engine oil and filter changes): technician types in the same filter element part no. 000-180-28-09, Arno's prior posts states: 000-180-28-08 or AMG 113-184-02-25 (he has the P30 package on his 55).

Cross reference for 000-180-28-09 (or AMG 113-184-02-25) at this site shows up Mann HU715/6x. 000-180-28-08(Arno's #) fails to show any cross reference to any Mann part no., so I suspect is a typo:correct last 2 digits is -09 and not -08.

Allegedly, when MB upped the oil change interval to 13K, they started specifying a 'long life' (aka fleece) filter, then kept the same part number as they expected the paper one to 'filter' itself ( ) out of the system.

Read all about it HERE.

Eddy, made me go back and look - again - and you are spot on - bad eyes on my part.

A0001802809 is the proper filter for the '55, and A0001802609 for the 350 & 280/300..

Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe that the change interval for AMG is still 10K or once a year.
Also the AMG specific filter is Paper (actually it is not paper, it is a fiber material) not fleece.

Sorry if this is off topic but do you SLK55 guys actually wait 10k or once a year for an oil change or do you add a separate oil change in between at 5k miles?

10k miles or a year here - based on oil tests, I could actually go longer - and that's on the "Sheep Chase" 55! :-)

Yes, the OFFICIAL MB part for the SLK55 AMG oil filter is the one you mentioned. I have a pic here: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/861/dscn3352.jpg/

Yes, the cross reference to Mann is correct as you mentioned also. I have obtained this filter also from Amazon. I have a pic here: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/834/dscn3353s.jpg/

Both MB SLK55 AMG and Mann oil filters side by side pics here:

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/708/dscn3360e.jpg/
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/853/dscn3364m.jpg/
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/515/dscn3365c.jpg/

I measured both the MB SLK55 AMG and the Mann oil filters and both measures the same. Although there are some "physical" differences you can see with a naked eye. Therefore the two ARE NOT EXACTLY IDENTICAL. However, it LOOKS TO ME WITH THE NAKED EYES............the "material" for filtering is the same (but I can not be sure.)

I bought a set of above 3 Mann oil filters for my SLK55 AMG when it was on sale on Amazon (believe it or not is was like $1.69 EACH with FREE shipping on Amazon Prime!!) But I was not sure about them so I returned them back to AMAZON.

So far I can not obtain an OFFICIAL FLEECE OIL FILTER from any MB dealers. I was only able to obtain the one I have pictured from an MB dealer and I had confirmed with the MB dealer that indeed it fits my SLK55 AMG. I know for sure now that it is NOT FLEECE (although the tech at the MB dealer said it WAS!!). IKdN????

My question was: Is the oil filter used for the SLK280/300/350 FLEECE type? Therefore these models of SLK's can go as long as 15K miles for an oil change VERSUS 10K for the SLK55 AMG?

I honestly doubt it's the oil filter that's the limitation - modern synthetics are pretty amazing. I think it's just typical MB conservative nature - and the desire to pump service dollars into the dealers - that keep it where it is.

Since in theory an AMG is gonna be pushed harder than a non-AMG (yeah, right! ;-)), I suspect that's why the lower change interval.
