Hello all...

My wife and I have just picked up a 1999 230 Kompressor for the princely sum of £500.

A good price it seems, but as you might expect... It is a bit tatty... (door cards falling apart, pitted alloy wheels, water in the headlights, some dash bulb not working, and some engine hesitation... And the previous owner fancied himself as a bit of a paintwork expert... Which clearly he wasn't!!!).

But... The roof works and that's surely the point?

I've found lots of useful info on hear and have already cleaned the MAF sensor, which has made a HUGE difference.

I've ordered new headlamp seals and taken off the door cards to reglue them... Might even put some new speakers in, to go with the rather nice Blaupunkt aftermarket stereo which was already in the car...

I have a good independant Mercedes specialist near me who I'm going to ask to give the car a thorough 'going over' to see if there's anything that desperately needs doing...

While I'm no expert on cars, I'm capable of wielding a spanner and following instructions, so I hope to be able to some of the work myself.

I'll leave major mechanical and paintwork to the experts though...

Loving the car so far...

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like a bargain, it's got to be worth more in parts if it comes to that, but hopefully with a bit of TLC you can get it looking good and running nicely.

Plenty of places about to refurbish those wheels, I had mine done locally and was amazed at how well they repaired and repainted them, but it cost me half of what you paid for your car :(.

You need to take some before and after pictures and post them of course :).

Blue skies,

Gary

Thanks for the warm welcome...

I'll take a few shots of the poor old girl in the state she's currently in, and see how she looks in a few months...

RoboGaz - you're right about its value in parts, but I like to think I could spend maybe £2000 and still be quids in!!!

I've got plenty of ideas from reading on here, but must discipline myself to get the essential stuff sorted first... Maybe...
