I just checked and it doesn't seem to be there anymore, it was there last time I'd checked. I guess you have to check it occassionally to see if they post again.

The guy on ebay sells them for about $350 if i remember correctly.

I spotted an A4 Audi with the rear tail lights tinted and asked him where he got his done. He said just about any shop that paints can do it. They simply mix a hint of black paint into clearcoat. Then layer it to how dark you want them. About $100-$150 for this.

His were perfect, no bubbles, 100% gloss, very well done.
If you go the paint option, just becarefull they are actually going to use Gloss paint with black, and not that cheap "tint paint" you can find in a auto parts store. That stuff sucks.

I am thinking of getting mine done soon. Planning to tint the red, and leave the white in the middle.

I'll be interested to see what yours look like when completed - cause I think red might be quite swish!!!

i would eb tempted for the tinted ones.
to be honest painting them hasn't got the desired effect that coloured plastic has. plus over here we have an MOT which is very strict and won't allow a car to be taxed if any paint is on the rear light clusters. Not sure about mainland england if they alloow this or not.

Bummer I hadn't thought about that - probably very true.

Here's another variation of the black mirror rear tail lights for the R171 SLK. These are TOTALLY blacked out. This is a link to a current eBay auction.

ae98, i would not use those cheapo spray cans of tint. I have seen the results from them and would never use it on my car at least.

The tint comes out a dull matte coating. If you took your time, perhaps it will be even all around, however most people get hotspots with more/less paint. Also i've seen the bubles pop up on this pait while drying.

Just my thoughts. Not a fan of the cheap tint spray. I am looking to tint my lights, and would go with either the full replacement as in the links above, or get mine sprayed at a pro shop.
They use a mixture of clearcoat and a hint of black. Then layer it to get the tint darkness you want. I have seen the results from this and was very impressed. This is how the guy on Ebay is doing his lights. First they sand them down, then do the clearcoat/black mix over them. Around here, it runs for about $100-$150 for the pro spray.

Thread doesn't work. My main goal is to make the "white" bit become less obvious. So tinting it in red would probably work too.
