| hi there ... At the moment I have 17" alloys and wheels. I was told that I am able to fit 18'' and 19'' alloys on my wheels. I was wandering, if I do go forward with this and change my alloys to 18'' or 19'', wouldn't that effect the drive-ability of the car (when turning or speeding). Would I feel a lot of difference? would the car become less stable. I also attach a picture of alloys I want, would you be able to advise me on where I would be able to get them from? is their a site or a particular office? What tyres (front and rear) would fit best with these alloys? I am very grateful for your help ... |

| I think you will not have any negative effect on driveability or stability of the car. I usually change between 18" summer and 17" winter wheels. The 18" wheels feel more direct and sportier. The rims are BBS type CH. They are available in 17", 18" and 19" for the SLK. http://www.bbs.com/Raduebersicht.20.0.html?&L=2 The certificate for the German authorities says the following tyres are allowed for: the 8,5 x18 offset 35 mm: front and rear: 225/40 or front: 225/40 and rear: 245/35 or front: 225/40 and rear: 255/35 the 8,5 x19 offset 35 mm: front and rear: 225/35 or front: 225/35 and rear: 255/30 But notice that BBS does not offer different widths of rims for the front and rear axle. So I'd prefer the 225 sizes and vary the offset with spacers at the rear axle.

| I also have a question about the wheels. I wonder how important the offset number is? As I have now 17'', 7,5' ET 36 front, and 8,5'' ET 30 rear, I would like to know how wide I can play? I couldn't find aftermaket wheels that have the same width (7,5 and 8,5 18'') I would have to put all wheels either 8,5'', or front 8'' and rear 9''...If I put front and rear wider (8'' and 9''), do I have to change the offset number, or can I leave the same values (36 front and 30 rear) As I understood, I can vary the offset with the spacers, but I can only decrease the offset value. For example, if the offset is 40, I can put the spacer, and make the offset 36. Am I right? Thanx G |

http://www.slkworld.com/slk-r171-gen...pinions-2.html In my case I went from a stock 17" setup with offsets of 36mm/Front and 30mm/Rear to 19" TSW Rims that required a 32mm/Front and a 30mm/Rear offset. Spaces can help in some cases overcoming limitations but I think most here would agree that It would be best not to use them if it can be avoided, puts additional stress on lugs.
