| Hi, Does anyone know where I can get the clear perspex wind deflector for an SLK350 I am buying? I know I can get it as a retailer fit accessory, but £279 seems alot of money for a bit of perspex and 2 mesh inserts! Many thanks, Jim |

| You might want to check the forums sponser Windrestrictor, they offer wind deflectors.

| I had a quick look at Windrestrictor.com - I assume this is who you mean. If I can, I would like to get the proper MB part for it, with the mesh inserts which go into the rollover bars. Also, I am in the UK, so not sure if Windrestrictor would ship here. Cheers, Jim |

| try ebay germany for a "windschott"(I think)...much cheaper than buying from the dealer, and the one I got was a genuine OEM part. |

| Thanks Etyu, I tried the link, but cant find them selling these. I have looked for Slk Windschott on Ebay Germany and there are a few, but not much cheaper than MB dealers in the UK (they are going for about 300€ + p&p) I drove on the motorway both with and without the silly cloth one attached the other day and it makes a HUGE difference. If anyone knows someone who is selling one, please get in touch! Cheers, Jim |

| Personally, I've got to give Windrestrictor's clear model, priced at $229 USD, my "official best buy award." Very professional looking, and reasonably priced compared with the OEM model at over $600 USD! And much more professional looking than the $76 USD model I have now (use it on both roadsters) that straps to the roll hoops with seat belt straps and Velcro. One thing I don't notice on Windrestrictor's models, though, is any feature to block the air flow through the roll hoops. Is there any? |

| Windrestrictor does not block the holes in the roll bars but I have one and love it. It looks great on the car and it comes with the led lighting that looks really cool at night. I have seen the factory screen and the Windrestrictor just has a nicer look to it. Plus the folks at Windrestrictor are very easy to deal with, very nice people. |

| Yes, the OEM unit (and its "copycats") has a fairly thick black horizontal piece on the bottom of the area between the hoops, that angles up the inside of each hoop. We are fairly short people, and this black plastic blocks our view to the rear. I see no advantage in having a "cool" looking accessory if it causes you to wreck your car. Windrestrictor has no such obstruction, and I personally like the nice, clean, and unobstructed look of the "clear" model. |

| Have to confess, I don't like the Windrestrictor one at all. No offence, but to me from the front it looks like a bolted on piece of perspex (and presumeably cannot be removed without leaving holes?) I can't believe no one has produced one in the style of the official part, with plastic cladding around the rollbars to hold it in place. |

| Benz has a Patent on it, including how it attaches to the roll bar

| It is a lot of money but it works well, is easy to fit (no drilling required) and enhances the look of the car. Keep checking on e-bay for the official MB one - there are many good second-hand examples which can be obtained at much less than the retail price. That's where I bought and I am very pleased with it. |

| My personal opinion is that you spent quite a bit of money on your SLK, the only thing you want to put in it is either OEM or up-market. I do think the OEM windscreen is way over priced, but it has mesh cover over the rollbars, the design and fit is simple and clever, and most of all, it does not look like an aftermarket idea for Japanese import. But if you are looking for value, then aftermarket would do just fine, but if you are looking for value, why did you buy a SLK? |

| Please note my posts above about the Windrestrictor vs. the OEM unit. Again, my wife is short (5'2") and cannot see well to the back of the car with the OEM unit, due to it having a black plastic area near the bottom and up the sides. I'm 5'9" tall, and the OEM unit actually gives me a bit of trouble. My concern about the OEM unit is safety, not price. I did not, however, notice that holes had to be drilled to install the Windrestrictor, and this would be a negative for me. Windrestrictor, do holes have to be drilled? |

As for the rear view clearance, I am shorter than you and have the seat adjusted to may be 50% of the max height, not only clearance is fine, I can see quite a bit of the read deck of the car. Have you tried adjusting the seat height with the OEM windscreen and see if it works any better? | |
