wow. Hmm I woudlnt even know where to begin with that one. Why did u buy a hydro locked car? Ive heard the story of going thro a "puddle" and doing that to the engine once or twice, it seems like a rare occurence.

Instead of a 350 engine, go with a 55 engine. Altho it doesnt have to be a 55 amg engine, as they arent all that different from the 55 engines they have been putting in the SL's S, and E classes as of late, or even the 5.0 engine. It would be a neat little ride.

The warranty i believed covered the other guy who seized his engine doing the same thing, sighting that some sort of intake allowed to much water in. I still dont see how it is done tho. Good Luck!

If Dan checks this he can prob tell you the part number for a crate engine, and how much benz would want to price. Update your profile with your location and Model year car, maybe your close enough where he can do it

sorry should have mentioned im in the uk
Scotland to be exact

i bought it because i got a relay good deal on it and the car has every extra on it
except digital climate control

never thought of the 55 engine dose that just fit in or would i have to modify anything

o and can i just buy the digital climate control unit and fit it or do i need other parts
i read a post that said it could be done but all you gain is the look of digital climate control

This is gonna be difficult, you know how much the new engine will cost and it would need to be from the SLK to fit.

While it would be cool to fit a larger engine i don't know one that would mount and you would need all new electrics even then the CAN addressing might be out with the new ECU.

If you fit the digital climate control now then you will get some functions but not all of them, you will need a lot of additional parts to make them work.

Yes, plus you would probably need different suspension parts if you went for the 55 engine...since I am sure the springs are different rates. Your best bet if you are looking to save money is find a slk350 motor out of one in a bone yard.

Never heard of a junk yard being referred to a "bone yard". Sounds like U.S. Air Force jargon?

Yep, that's what we called them when I was scavanging parts for the GTO and I'm not military but am US civilian gov. employee.

Seems like there was some guy here just the other day trying to sell a 350 drivetrain.

Sorry to say this but it takes a bit more than a puddle to hydrolock a motor. Unless you have some aftermarket intake that pulls air in low in the fender/bumper area and I haven't seen a setup like this on any MB. Dan can answer but I am guessing 15" or so of water.

Well the maximum your allowed to drive in is 30cm's and that has no guarantees attached with it, the car will leak and the electronics will probably suffer damage.

To hydrolock it the intake would only need to swallow a little water and since it can't be compressed its all over, its hard to tell exact depths because the water itself is a variable.

A big ass lorry could have come screaming past the car and its bow wave forced in water.

i think Dansslk is right about the electrics i thought i had found an engine but when i sent mine down to the guy it turnout his engine is from a early skl 350 and all the sensors are in different places
he said it could be rewired but not really cost affective
he is trying to get a block from Germany and build me one

on the climate control front if i get a digital one from a scrap yard can i just unplug my one and plug in the digital one and it will work or is the wiring different im not bothered about all the sensors and extra benefits i just want the car to look like it has got it as this is the only extra not on the car

seams to be quite common in the uk as i found 5 slk's that have been hydrolocked during my search for an engine
probably down to all the flooding lately

The structural parts of the body from the bulkhead forward are also made in thicker gauge steel in the 55 according to the people on the production line tour. That can't be fixed without a new shell.

Yeah you can do that but you need to make sure the unit as an AC Off button not and AC one.

I'm the guy with the 2005 slk 350 engine w/ 14k miles. This car was an interior fire. I took the front clip. The engine is untouched. I assume that shipping is out of this world from Ohio,US to the UK...my e-mail is cbelaney@hotmail.com if interested. Good luck friend.

Why don't you buy a block from Merc mate?

You don't need to buy a whole engine

vin for the engine I have is wdbwk56f05f050509

I have clean title and carfax to show last logged mileage as 14K. I would take $5,000 US and would consider helping with the shipping. Hope this helps.
