OEM R171 stubby antenna (arial) - is it available? - Page 2

Has anyone ever bought anything from K1 Motorsport? I tried to order the R170 short antenna from them by filling out the online order form, they did not respond so I did it again 2 weeks later, still got no response.

Just received the R170 short antenna from K1 Motorsport, swapped out the whip antenna, everything (FM/AM/lock-unlock/roof) seems to work fine, does not look as nice as the SL antenna but it does not need painting either.

I did not test it out extensively, but if it proves to be much less effective as the whip antenna, then I will do the mod.

Go ahead and do the mod. You'll be disappointed with the factory R170 antenna performance compared to the factory R171 antenna. The antenna mod is quick and easy to complete, cost is minimal. Why suffer?

With the car sitting in the garage all the preset AM/FM stations work as well as it was before with the whip antenna, actually the hard top up/down works better than before. But I have a 45 miles commute, so I will check it at the far end when I go to work next week, if the reception is not good, then I will do the mod. I know the cost is insignificant, but I'm just too lazy to do it if I don't have to.

Shouldn't take more than 10 to 20 minutes and is well worth it.

I never had problems with the FM reception, so I have not notice much difference but the key fob range is night and day. Before I had to be right next to the car, now I can drop the top before I get to the car, very cool, didn't think I need it either but it's cool to have, it took me a month and a half before doing it b/c I was lazy and my SLK is in for winter storage. It only cost me a quarter for the copper wire and 10 minutes of my time. Do it.
