Default tell me what you guys think

i'm looking to install carbon fiber trim on my interior, i saw this site http://www.exoticwoodtrim.com/produc...l.asp?pid=1478

i need your opinions about this, click on the diagram.

It's less expensive than the MP designs one, i just wanna know if anyone of you can tell me where i could find a CF just for the handbrake alone and nothing else, coz the package that MP designs is selling includes other parts and is way too expensive, i was thinking of getting just for the handbrake and all the other ones i will purchase from the link above.

I am not sure where you can get the CF hand brake alone but why not try with your dealer as you might get to order the 030 Performance package interior trim without the dashboard CF parts. This means CF door handles and hand brake lever.

As for the website you attached, I think its nicely priced but need to see some samples first so I can give my final verdict.

$155 for the whole CF kit, it's probably just stickers, like Mo, I need to see pics for final judgement

Exactly thats what I thought at first, the vynly stuff you stick ontop of your current trim ie wood or alluminum.

$155 is way cheap for a dash kit. Request a sample from the company. Stay away from any kit that requires a "bonding" agent with the application. You might change your mind later.

You can actually get your handbrake lever cover in CF by AMG's performance studio, see below link:

http://www.mercedes-amg.com/assets/p...ss_english.pdf

I assume that the prices are based upon taking the vehicle to them which I guess is going to be pretty expensive seeing as you're from the US!! It may be worth contacting them and seeing if there is a way around this. I don't know how this is installed but maybe they could send it as a kit?

Another option might be to print the price list off and take it to your local dealer and see if they can help you out.

here's a link to some sample pics of an R230 http://www.exoticwoodtrim.com/popupe.asp?eid=111
yes, its sticker, i was under the assumption that most aftermarket dash kits are stickers... MP designs aren't stickers then? if you guys dont mind telling me what's wrong with the CF sticker? thanks for your insights!

Well first off because its a sticker mate and you have the problems that come with it.

Its going to peel unless uber strong glue is used and if you where to mis-align it during fitment its gonna be stuck like sh1t to a blanket.

Potentially working on the trim pieces could damage the sticker leaving a nasty mark or a tear.

MB do a CF parts kit outside of AMG and the effect is the same should have no problem getting them from your dealer.

I saw these same stickers on E-Bay for $135 but there again it is stickers and I don't see how some of the pieces could form to some of the curved surfaces well if they are flat without it looking like it really doesn't fit well. They show pieces in the kit that fit the door handle openings and other curved surfaces and I just can't imagine they would fit without some problems, but hey that's just my opinion.

It would be best to purchase a CFkit not the stickers such as Mpdesign as there quality is top notch.

Some friends of mine have matching Volvo 850's (HURL!) and they bought the wood for the red one, and the carbon fiber for the black one from this company.

They look good if you are very, very careful putting them on. And, to be honest, go into any Infiniti dealer and you'll see they put these stickers on (only stock wood from Inifiniti is a reddish rose wood.)

However, if you do this, take this advice: Find an SLK in the junkyard and buy it's interior trim peices to stick it on. If you don't like it, you didn't ruin yours.

how bout the MP design steering wheel, is just the CF insert or the whole steering wheel that they are selling on the site? Like they put there if you buy one with the paddle shifter its $1400 while the one with no shifter its a lot cheaper, if i bought the one with the shifter, am i gonna be able to use the paddles even if my SLK doesnt have the paddle nor the button shifter on the steering wheel?

If your car does not have steering wheel shifters at the moment buying a wheel with them will not enable the function.

They have to be hooked up to the shifter module and thats a PITA.

wait, get on their email list, I got an email last year for that CF steering wheel for $650 or was that $750, I can't remember, all I remember was it was really really cheap and I was going to get one but it had paddles, I have a 6spd, and it'll look dumb on my car, they didn't have any w/o the paddles.

I would get the real CF, if it was a honda, sure ynot but it's a benz, and will look odd with the stickers. Best to just leave it alone, it'll still look good, CF isn't cheap, unless you know someone from Asia that can make them for you for 1/3 of the price, buying things in Euro is expensive but buying things in Indonesian rupiah isn't so bad.

I met this guy with the 55, he's got the AMG CF trim on his car, but he told me he also bought those stickers online and had professional put it for him, and IMHO i couldn't even tell the difference and which ones are from the AMG CF kit or the stickers coz sum parts of the interior the AMG CF didnt have, that's what he told me, if it's all BS that i don't know. thanks anyways for the input... By the way any of you F1 fans?

The MP Designs carbon fiber kit are entire pieces that you swap out with your stock pieces. The quality is pretty outstanding. Although carbon fiber is supposed to lighten things, these pieces are heavy (which is fine, it's decoration) and the workmanship is very good.

You get what you pay for. Stickers in a Benz is not a good fit from my standpoint. If you want carbon, get the real deal. You'll be happier every time you look at it.

I bought the carbon kit from Performance Products. I loved the way it made the door handles and the brake handle look, but wasn't in love with the dash pieces, especially over the glove box. I had one door handle piece that didn't fit quite right (it was warped slightly). I'm guessing it was just a factory hiccup as all the other pieces were top-notch. Performance Products didn't exactly handle the problem the way they should have, I got pissed and sent the whole kit back. But, for the most part, the quality was excellent. The deep three-dimensional depth of carbon fiber is hard to capture in pictures, it's pretty cool in the flesh.
