| I found the part # of the esphirically curved auto dimming drivers side mirror for the SLK. It is Part# 1718100321 Is there anyone who can find this part in Europe and ship it to me? I want to find out the cost. My local dealer can't order the part here in the US. Any tips on getting my hands on one of these would be greatly appreciated. It is a true blind spot eliminator. Thanks, Michael Last edited by nmslk; 04-06-2007 at 10:08 AM. |

| Its not available in the US the mirror is of the standard type and gives you a nasty blind spot

| That would be super. I'll wait to hear from you. I have to say having a convex DR side mirror on all my previous cars it has save me a few times from making a lane change when someone was there. Thanks again. Michael |

| OK looking at £200 for the auto-dimming EU mirror cheaper without the auto-dim but its your call.

| Dan, I'm interested in getting the non auto-dimming convex left hand side (drivers) mirror. Do you know if it is a simple pop on/off glass mirror or if there is more involved? How do you want to work payment. Credit card, Paypal, other? I will need to know shipping cost as well. It may be worth posting to see if anyone else in the US wants in on this purchase if you are willing to ship multiple units. Up to you on that. Thanks again, Michael |

| Its clipped on and a bitch to release without the little tool to do it but this will of course be a Merc OEM part so i can't see any reason why the dealer would not fit it 5 mins at most with the tool just pops out. Prob best to use paypal and i will just add it to the shops account with MB, not sure about shipping to be honest its all weight based i would need to take one into the post office and have them tell me since i have never shipped one international before. Its gonna be £42.44 for the unit at trade price without the dealer markup and then £3.75 and £7.43 for shipping and VAT from MB since its not warranty work we have to pay them so that gives you £53.62 for everything bar the price to send to the US thats probably going to be about £10/15 but i cant say for sure. If anybody else is interested please let me know now before i order it because the price will be lower the more are ordered.

| Dan, my understanding is that you wouldn't have to charge VAT since it is being shipped outside of Europe. Does the unit have to be shipped to you and then to me or can it be drop shipped directly to me from MB? One thought though it that MB may not like that since this particular piece is not US spec. I'm out of town all next week so I'm willing to wait to see if anyone else on the forum in the US wants to order one as well to get any sort of better pricing or shipping savings. Is there a good place to post this info as a group buy here on the forum? Another question. Can you get the technical spec manuals for the SLK's? Do they even exist or is it all in SDS? I have the tech manuals for my Volvo and it comes in handy over the years. Thanks again. -Michael |

| You are perfectly correct shipments outside the US are exempt from VAT but if i where to ship direct to you the difference between trade and retail would cost more than that VAT does so it would work out more expensive to send direct. The unit does not have a country code on it so hopefully MBUSA wont mind if they do complain i will get you the instructions OK. I think we are probably in the best sub-forum already for group buys maybe a mention in general but i think we should be good here. Unfortunately its over 2000 pages of information and its all on the SDS to print the stuff out would take ages.

| I'm sure it looks much better than the one I have on my car. If I had the car yet, I'd definitely be interested. I can't imagine driving without it... |

| Convex mirror = curvature in the mirror so you can see a wider viewing angle in the mirror. you can get the convex mirror with or without the auto dim feature from parts. |

| If you have the mirrors positioned properly, you shouldn't need convex mirrors. Although it probably wouldn't hurt to have them also. |

It sounds crazy, but setting the DR side mirror properly is the is the biggest problem I'm having with this otherwise awesome vehicle so far. I guess I'm just used to a larger, convex mirror.

| I've found the easiest way to remove a mirror is to carefully twist it out of the clips using a small suction "dent" remover with handles - the type you pull one handle over to create the vacuum. Of course it also securely holds the mirror as it comes off. |

Trial and error, for everyone it's personal preference. I have a convex mirror on my other car and love it. It's the only way I feel confident (no blind spots) I'd like to get one for the SLK I just haven't convinced my self that it's worth the high$. I would be interested in seeing if we could get a group buy started for the convex mirrors. nmslk
