| I got a free one with the same color from my dealer! The transmission is not so good, but the look is so good that I am not going to replace it. |

| So...how is the remote reception on the Brabus bumper antenna? Is it highly directional? is it anywhere close to the stock reception? Can it be installed in the headliner of the car underneath the vanity mirrors? or in the door panels or dash? |

| Its not quite as good as OEM but its very close. It has to go in the trunk because all the control modules for the antenna are in there.

| Aftermarket antenna can have pretty long extenions? in my other car i have a 4 foot extension for the radio, and a 2 foot extension for the cellphone...can i use an aftermarket antenna and amplifier with the remote key then? i'm not very concerned about the radio reception, just about the key. something like this: http://shopper.cnet.com/car-video/au...-32168012.html |

| I don't know about an aftermarket mate, with the Brabus the antenna pads hook up to the booster that takes power from the Rear SAM the booster then connects to the antenna control module via FAKRA the control module splits the key signals out and sends them off via CAN and sends all the other RF on the line into the AGW, the problem is knowing what signal range to boost you would need to work out what frequency the key uses and find a compatible booster to put in the line if you got one with enough kick you could use the SL antenna just fine without adding others. It would need to be located in the trunk if you did want to add other antennas you could run a line back to it but the booster would need to be by the control module thats fixed in the trunk. If you have a scanner to find the key frequency then i think its possible.

| Just for info, i have installed an electric wire in the bumper (4 meters) in parrallel with the SL antenna. Radio reception becomes good (less than OEM, but good enough i think. More directive) even with the SL antenna. Few euros only .... Unbeatable ! Installation needs to remove the bumper, which is quite easy.

| Please start a new thread on how to's. I think we should sticky some of the "how to" threads in this forum -- like varioroof module install, aftermarket bluetooth, clear sidemarkers, etc.

| i have some thought during this night. Bumper removal or wire installation will not be a big deal for a lots of people. However, to connect this cable to the antenna amplifier, i've : . opened the antenna amplifier, . used a solder iron and solder the new wire. This may be difficult for some of you. Anyway, i will make the report to explain exactly what i have done. Another way is to create a kind of 'Y' cable, connected between the antenna and the amplifier, wich allows to add the new wire easaly. i have to check what is the antenna P/N, and if can be found easaly .. i will post some pict in order to explain more clearly ... Stay tuned .......

| cheers Zeiser, will be a useful tutorial. I agree we should have a new category on the main page called 'how to's' for R170's and R171's. |
