Default Radio Amp dead (Bose) - Help?

2001 SLK320 with Bose FM/Cassette/6 CD changer. Radio died, dealer said it's the head unit so I sent it off to a place in CA to fix. They said head is OK, must be amplifier. Sent them the amp; they want $250 to repair it but are STILL warning me it may not work because speaker wires may be damaged, possibly in doors.

Hey, I'm not an audio freak but I sure want an operating radio/CD. Any suggestions? Should I just bag it and go for an aftermarket replacement?

THANKS, guys!

Hey Midnight!

Welcome to the forum!

I doubt there's anything wrong with your speaker wiring, sounds like they just don't want to warranty the amp repair.

Not to totally dis them. I spent 4 years reparing audio equipment in TX and automotive amps were the worst because I would constantly get folks bringing their amps in that they damaged in the installation process. Not suggesting you're one of those folks, just aluding to why they may have hesitations.

As for the OEM stereo, it's your personal preference. I kept mine intact because I wanted to keep things original cosmetically.

I inserted a cassette adapter and ran the wire/mini-plug out the back of the stereo and down through the console to the cig lighter compartment so I could listen to my mp3 player in place of cassettes.

Just a suggestion.
