Default How do I put in a cd changer

Hi Everyone! I am a new SLK owner and I have some questions. My car does not have a cd changer in the trunk. Can I simply buy a used changer and put it in? Is the car pre-wired for one or will it need wiring. Alternately, can I jsut remove the head unit and replace it with an aftermarket radio/cd player? I have read some thread here about installing new head units but I was unsure if they use the OEM cd changer or whether they are installing a stand alone cd player.

Finally, there is a cd changer from a 98 E320 for sale locally. Will that changer fit my 2004 SLK 230? Where would I get the mounting bracket if I did this?

Thanks in advance for any information!

John

CD Changer for MY2004 SLK230
A 170 545 13 40, bracket, CD changer, qty 001
A 170 545 14 40, bracket, CD changer, qty 001
A 203 820 90 89, CD changer, in trunk, right, qty 001
N 000000 002202, bolt, bracket mounting M6x16, qty 003
N 000000 001955, bolt, CD changer to bracket M4x6, qty 004

Need VIN to verify optical cable for CD. MY2004's probably have it. There may be a loose optical cable at the rear right side of the trunk behind the panel.

I assume you have MB audio 30 and it's plug and play.

The 98 E320 is dash mounted with a different P/N. Probably won't work.

Thanks for the reply and the part numbers. Pardon my ignorance but what is "MY2004"? Is there somewhere other than Mercedes to get these parts?

MY2004 is the model year 2004.

You can search the Internet like ebay for the parts. Maybe car audio shops in Canada have kits for the SLK.

If you notice the P/N for the CD changer, it for the base C class (A 203 ...)MB.

Thanks for all the responses and the welcome. Great information! I went out and looked closely at the car. Openned the rear right panel where the pump is for the hard top. I found a series of orange wires marked as part of the audio system. So I know the car is wired. All I need now is the changer!

I'm new to Mercedes but I find it hard to believe that Mercedes were still fitting cassette players to their cars in 2004 .
