Hi All, planning on attending this event at the fabulous Imperial War Museum Duxford (IWM Duxford for short) near Cambridge. I have been in contact and it appears that a minimum of 10 cars is required to arrange a dedicated pitch. It is £10 per adult for entry and this will also allow you entry to the various museum buildings, containing a variety of iconic aircraft including, Concorde, Vulcan Bomber, Lancaster Bomber and the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird (my personal favourite) to name but a few!

The car displays will be classics, modern classics and car clubs in general so very varied.

Is anyone else interested in going to this event?

If we can get at least 10 cars I can arrange a private display area for us.

Attendee List

2. russj 2012 SLK55 AMG (Russ)
3. Simon Cliffe 2004 SLK 230K (Simon)
4. 55russamg 2007 SLK55 AMG (Russ)
5. Axlerod 2006 SLK 350
6. npb748r 2013 SLK55 AMG (Neil)
7. Gromit3528 2007 SLK 280 (Roy)
8. Savcom 2002 SLK 320 (Martin)
9. Martin Williams 2005 SLK 350 (Martin)
10. DAVIETHESCAFF 2008 SLK55 AMG (Davie)
11. Terminal 2005 SLK55 AMG
12. BlanPrivate 2001 SLK 320 (Keith)

My friend has suggested this place be the rendez-vous point for those that want to meet up beforehand. It is conveniently about 3 miles from gate 1, which is the entry point for all exhibitors. This gate opens at 9:30am so would suggest that those wishing to go in convoy meet at the Coach House from 9:00 for a 9:30 departure. Rooms to stay for anyone who want to travel to Duxford on Saturday.

Coach House Hotel
Flint Cross, Newmarket Rd, Heydon, Royston, Cambridgeshire SG8 7PN

As we are now pre-registered it will be fine to arrive separately if people prefer to head straight to Duxford on their own, particularly those who will be coming off the M11.

I like the idea Col, and I'll add this into the UK 2016 Meet Calendar, but I'm not sure that I can make that date myself... I'll let you know if that changes.

It would be great if you could get 10 SLKs there together too! :tu:

Ok, great. Keep an eye on this thread. If for any for any reason we don't make 10 cars I believe there is also an individual parking area so that's my plan B. :tu:

I also understand that Mercedes-Benz Club have a stand which we could possibly get on. I'm a member but not sure if they will allow non-members to join them or not. I will check.

Here is a link to someone's photo's from the 2014 show. It's a little bit biased to TVR at the start, figure that the video was made by a TVR owner. Do stick with it though because not only does it show the variety of cars that you can expect to see it also shows some of the museum exhibits too. Should give prospective visitors a good idea of what to expect this year especially those that have never been to Duxford before.

230k

I'll be up for this, as long as you don't need just concours SLK55 AMGs? Duxford is a pleasant run from where I am and I haven't been there for years. It's a great day out.

Cheers

Hey Dave,

Is that picture in your signature of your black 05 SLK55 AMG by any chance at John O' Groats?

I have a very similar background in one of me on my Triumph Trophy about 10 years ago. It was foggy then too (prolly has been ever since!)?.

Cheers

Gromit, that signature pic is much more local (to me) than John O' Groats... it's an early morning pic outside the Donington Park Café - actually taken at one of our breakfast meets towards the end of September last year, while I was waiting for others to arrive.
Cheers, Dave

Saw this for sale locally , will it count towards the ten cars we need
That's nice Simon but it's not an SLK! Who's going to drive it? Stuart Little or Gizmo?

Martin I've added your name to the first post and will continue to update it.

In the meantime if others want add their details to the please feel free to copy and paste it with updates.

I have emailed Duxford regarding the cut off date, will update when I've heard back.

Morning All..

I would like to point out that the IWM at Duxford is a very, very interesting place for all the family.. and not just for the lads..

(If any ladies are dithering, I would urge you to grab the opportunity and go!)

My father took me as a surprise... and I later introduced my own daughter and many other youngsters to the wonders of this place.

Sadly it is too far away for us to join you.. but we will be there in spirit.

Thanks for your endorsement Stella, Duxford is a fascinating place, I love it too! :tu:

When an elderly aunt died..we found some small sketches her husband had done..life in the trenches of WW1..a bit grim...done on old scraps of paper, anything he could lay his hands on..

Seems he was an artist/draughtman and could not resist noting everything he saw...anyway we felt we could not simply throw these away, so they were sent to IWM at Duxford to do with as they pleased.

We received a nice note of thanks.... and although I am sure they are probably just in a drawer, I like to think that a small piece of our family history is safe and sound.

I am sure you will all enjoy a wonderful day and only wish we could be there. :x

Woop woop! Thanks @DAVIETHESCAFF.
No need to thank me, I'm just feeding my habit by getting a live SLK fix (the forum on its own is just not enough of a hit anymore :D), and the Scottish members seem a little shy at coming forward. :frown:

Apart from that, the drive down through the Scottish lowlands and the Lake District is great scenically, and I get to visit relatives while I'm down (though they'll probably be getting sick of the sight of me ).

Getting 10 for a booking

Hey Col,
How does the Duxford booking thing work? And when is the deadline?
There can't be much time left for the organisers to allocate us a spot.

If we get our 10 commitments and book a place and someone doesn't turn up on the day, do we lose our spot? How will the organisers know that someone isn't just late? Will they evict us from our spot at the last minute?

Do we have to supply details of vehicles and owners?

What I'm saying is that if someone like ......say.......
"promised" to come ?
but
" couldn't ......actually .......make it on the day" ?

would that still count as our minimum 10 participants for booking purposes??

Just sayin...........................?

Please update the list to include my real name (Roy) too

Thanks Roy, I'd already taken the liberty of adding your real name to the list in the first post of this thread, which already shows the 10 names/cars we have now too! :tu:

Participation form is ready to send off today. Please familiarise youselves with the terms. I have attached a copy of the blank form to this post. I will call the commercial team at Duxford later today just to confirm it's not already too late to get a pitch. Going to state 12-14 cars to give a little flexibility for others to attend if they decide to at short notice. Will post later with feedback from Duxford.
