Columbus Ohio Mercedes Events July 7-9

Arthritis Auto Show Selected as MBCA Regional Event

This is big news! Your Central Ohio Section has earned the opportunity to host an MBCA Regional Event! The last regional event we hosted was 20 years ago, and it too was in conjunction with this show when it was sponsored by Len Immke. We’re putting together a great event for MBCA members and other Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts to enjoy. We’re fortunate the Arthritis Foundation selected Mercedes-Benz as a featured marquee. It honors the 90th anniversary of the merger which formed the company as we know it today. As a featured marquee, the brand will be highlighted in all the show’s marketing and it allows the MBCA to add a little extra for our brand’s followers.

To begin with, as a featured marquee our area of the show field on Saturday will be in a prominent location. We have space reserved for 75 vehicles to be displayed. This seems like a lot, but as a regional event we are inviting MBCA sections from all the states surrounding Ohio. Plus, we’re inviting clubs like the Gullwing Group, M-100 Group, 190SL Group, Pagoda SL Group, and Ponton Group. Finally, the show is open to anyone wanting to show a Mercedes-Benz. I believe these spots will fill up before you expect. And, so will the hotels. Make your plans soon!

In the show Saturday, MBCA members will be performing MBCA National Concours judging for all 7 classes. If you don’t want your car judged, but still want to be involved, then you can register for display only, be right in the thick of the action, and be relaxed. Each class will have three trophies thanks to our event committee finding sponsors. There is also a Best of Show for Mercedes-Benz.

We’ll have two large tents in our display area to promote the MBCA. We are still finalizing details, but we will have several activities at the tents for members. We’ll also be able to sign up new members at the tent. More details in the June issue.

We’ve organized an M-B Autocross on Sunday. Everyone who registers a Mercedes-Benz for the show will be invited to drive with our local section members. This will be run with the OSU Sports Car Club and on a large parking lot on The Ohio State University’s west campus.

What can you do to enjoy this event or get involved in making it a success? If you have a car to show then go to the event website and register today! As mentioned, space is limited. We’ll also need volunteers to staff the membership tent. If you have experience judging big shows, we can train you on the club’s Concours rules. And, don’t forget helping out at the autocross on Sunday! Contact Beth or Bernadette.

The Arthritis Foundation organizes a great 3-day event, so go to the web site at www.arthritisautoshow.com and check out the whole calendar and register!
