New Friends from South Africa-tell us more

Hello new members from South Africa. I have noted today a few from your country have just joined. I would like to know about your part of the world. I have only met a hand full of people who immigrated from S A but that was years ago. Back then I was told by them that the country was in transition. They felt unsure of the future and safety of the country. They did however state that it was a beautiful place and generally the people were very hospitable. I am interested in eventually making my way to South Africa. Please tell me how life is now in your country.
Can one travel in relative safety alone as a tourist? Are there any places one should avoid? Any information you can share would be appreciated. I find the best advise about travel comes from locals.

Dear Lovemyslk, first of all sorry that nobody responded to you since August!! South Africa is a lovely country, but as with all countries you need to be careful where you go. Generally during the day it is safe in most places, but stick to the normally visited places at night and never alone. This actually goes for all countries and is pretty much common sense.

I stay in Cape Town which is more like an extension of Europe and does not feel the same as the rest of Africa. It is sunny and warm most of the time, except in winter.

Do visit and post your experience.
