Default LADIES! Post Your Photos Here!

We are the silent minority on this forum so let's open up and show 'em who we are and what we've got!
Just how many of us do we think we are...?

If you've got it flaunt it...
right?!

And we lucky lady SLK owners have it!

Drag out an old photo of you and your beauty and post it here.
We know you all had a pic taken when you got your babee...
Don't wait, thinking you'll take a new one.
As Nike says,
Just Do It!

Then, go out with what's left of summer and have a new one taken and replace it!
(That's called motivation...)

If you have, or have had more than one SLK, post pictures of both/all!

I'll start. With some old ones as well...
Now where's my camera...

Default Classic vs new

You seem to have replaced a 1998-99(??) with a newer model ... I love my '98 and hate the new design, but am really conflicted about investing in maintaining my current car, or buying a new one. Even when they introduce a new model, I expect them to make it even slimmer and racier -- I like the 98-look.

Did you have a hard time giving up your older car??

I've found something with me in my current R170 but not so lucky with my old R170 but have posted a picture of the old girl all the same - Oh what great memories I have of her!

Unhappy Regrets

I or I should say my husband and I just traded our 99 in for a 2008 model. Our new car is very nice, it's the 350 with the AMG package, neck scarfs, digital dual climate controls, nav and so on. BUT I am still sick about getting rid of my 99. I so LOVED that car. It was me. It was white with the AMG sport package. It was in perfect condition.

This new one is nice, very nice but it is not me. I am still sad. Silly isn't it?

Default Thank you!!!

It is soooo good to know I am not alone! They are totally different cars! I chose the '98 because it was elegant. It didn't have any of the tacky multi-colored electronics. It was like a Chanel suit -- elemental. It's profile was classic -- none of this testosterone induced race car wannabe detritus.

As you so perfectly captured -- it was you.

It is me. I simply want to keep it going forever ... but I'm at the point now of needing to have the inset part of the seats redone -- I have the grey and quartz interior with black exterior.

It has a couple of dings and maybe, I don't know, needs to be repainted.

So, it's a matter of putting $5,000-$6,000 into a car worth $6,000......

Or, not putting anything into it and simply driving it until it's last day ...

Or trading it in now, while it still has some value.......

My husband has the same solution as yours.

Thanks for sharing! Terry

I too loved my old 98 to bits and I said to myself that I would never part with her unless an AMG came knocking on my door. After taking care of her for 6 years with no faults except for a few stone chips on the front, an AMG version did come knocking on my door and sadly, I had to let her go. I do hope she went to a good home. On a happier note, I love my 32 AMG and I think I have made the right decision, she is my ultimate pride and joy with great spec. I would never part with her for a 171 now thats for sure.

Terry, as for wondering whether to put a few niggles right and invest around $6,000, I would say, if you love and want to keep your SLK that much, I would definitely invest in her. You just have to ask yourself whether or not you think of her that much to invest in her again. If you feel like Dianne then perhaps its a good move for you to put things right.

BTW - Dianne sooooo sorry to hear how you felt about your old 170 and no its not silly, but what's done is done and perhaps its best to now move on. However, I do know how its easier said than done to do that. I would have hated letting my old SLK go for something I was not that fond of.

Ladies have you any photos of past and current SLKs?

Default In a Perfect World I Would Have Kept Both

Hi Ladies,

Indeed, I did upgrade to an R171 from my early model R170 and felt much the same as you.

It's interesting to see this thread as one of the 'complaints' of the early SLKs was it was a chick car…

Mine was one of the first SLKs in the country as I was on a wait list for over 2 years. The 230 was all they brought over initially, with few options, although I did get to order a manual transmission. The demand was so high that the first time I got to drive an SLK was when I drove it home! So I longed for my SLK, literally, for over 2 years.

It was love at first sight! It exceeded my expectations and my feelings only rose from there. I took photos of my baby on every birthday. I loved being in that car, driving it and couldn't seem to stay out of it! I, personally, put 154,000 miles on it and loved it for 8 years.

Alas, in summer 2004 I took a road trip to Mid Ohio racetrack for a national Mercedes-Benz Club event. Long story short: On the way home in the middle of Wyoming I blew my engine. It was not MB error, but human error of the dealer in Mansfield, Ohio. I was stranded and had to have it towed to SLC where the dealer determined I needed a new long block. I shipped it home to my Seattle dealer who replaced it for me. From that point on I lacked the confidence in it I had always felt. Being a single woman who likes road trips and sometimes stays out late, I felt I needed a car I could rely on and had confidence in. My yellow baby, although all healed seemingly back to normal, could no longer give that to me.

When the R171s came out I was not excited about the rear end. I thought the front end was really classy, designed after the SLR, but overall, didn't like it as much as what I already had. I resisted for over a year. Then one day when at the Seattle dealer the GM offered me to take a manual '05 350 home for 4 days. I did so out of curiosity. I very much enjoyed the 350, how could I not, compared to a 230 with 150k miles? I smiled all the while I drove it. Guys wanted to race me at red lights. The true test, I figured, would be when I got back into little yellow. Well, that day did me in. I got in my cute beloved 230kompressor, started it up, and when I drove away from the dealer it felt like I was driving a bucket of bolts! It ruined my driving enjoyment! I put my name on the wait list and got the first 2006 in the Seattle area, July 2005.

However, when it arrived at the dealer it took me over 2 weeks to go pick it up. Finally they said I had to pick it up by the 31st so they could close out their month. I drove it home and put it in my garage. The driving experience of the R171 spoiled my enjoyment of the 170. I'd take it out every so often and then go back to yellow. I felt guilt that yellow knew blue was just waiting in the wings... It took me 9 months to emotionally detach from it. What really helped was I knew I needed to sell yellow to pay for my new bathroom remodel. When the bath was completed, yellow sold and I said good bye. I was ready.

I believe I would still be driving my '99 yellow SLK today had I not blown that engine in the middle of the country. But, I have moved on and have not looked back. I love my dark blue manual 350, it's glamorous, not cute, for a new phase of my life. But I do not have the same passion for it as I did my 230. I've taken, maybe, 1/10th the amount of photos.

Which reminds me, I need a good one of me and blue taken so I can post it here….

In a perfect world I would have kept both: raced little yellow and had blue as my daily driver.

Its true to say that many folk believe the 170s are a "ladies car" and I definitely understand the view when comparing a 230 to a 350 - as my old SLK too was a 230 but comparing it with my current SLK which is a 320 supercharged its so understated, other drivers often don't know what it can do at times its great - I can't stop grinning from ear to ear!

Thanks to all -- last week I drove a few "newer" SLKs 2001-2006 -- and decided to keep my '98 alive. So, ordered new seats from MB ($520 each! -- yes, just the seats, the backs would be an additional $540 each!) and have booked body and upholstery work for the two weeks I will be out West on a cattle round up (which is how I regain my sanity after spending 50 weeks a year "herding cats" in my executive public service career!).

I'm happy with my decision and will let you know how it goes for the next 100,000 miles. My husband just bought a new car so decided I could afford to have a "local trips only" pampered senior. All of your comments meant a lot to me and helped me follow my heart and not my head -- which makes for a nice change!

I'm having a heck of a time uploading picuters to this site. Any tips?

I am begining to enjoy the new car more and more. I still miss my old baby, and it doesn't help that I went to visit my sister last week and she still has hers. She just had to buy the exact same car after I got mine. Mine was in better shape though. But it is nice to have Nav and sat radio and electric memory seats, and neck scarves and on and on.....

So back to the picture, any help?

MissSLK,

You have to click on the paperclip icon on top of the post box. That will bring up a separate window you can attach pics to. Then click on the paperclip thing again to apply them to your post where you want it. I hear you can also post to photo bucket if the files are too large and post the link. Hope that helps.
