| I had my resonator replaced by straight pipes a few weeks back While I love the menacing start-up and the shear volume of accelerations, I didn’t like the gargling and flapping sounds that occurred at idle and low speed. Had a Magnaflow x-pipes put in on Friday and really enjoy the cleaner, more melodic tone that it has. It’s not as loud as the straight pipe but there is a nice wail that I now notice at anything above 4k. Like a lighter version of a F430 exhaust. It’s more European sounding where as the straight pipes sounded more American / Harleys like. This one is with the straight pipes:

| Substantial improvment, sounds much cleaner and better. I think its more civalized.

| I have been struggling with whether to go with x-pipes or not. I like the sound at full acceleration, but think it is a bit too rough and unrefined at idle and low R's. This definately helps me. Thanks for doing the comparison.

| Nice videos. It makes the comparison very easy. I think you've described the difference perfectly. Straight pipes- Louder. Very rough at low rpm and idle (I think a bit intrusive and this is where people mention tractor sounds). As rpm increase, sound is relatively the same, just faster. X-pipe- Louder than stock. Somewhere between OE and Straight pipes. Nice burble when letting off the gas. Sound changes as rpm rise making it more pleasing. Overall I say X-pipe... Of course, I'm biased. Glad to hear you're enjoying the mod.

| As means of comparison here is mine with the SuperSprint/Carlsson xpipe and Kleemann 200 cell secondary cats WITHOUT headers.

| Theoretically, the x-pipe will slightly lower restriction from the x-pipe back. The pulse from each cylinder get's split in half at the X so the pressure waves in each pipe don't peak as high even though there are twice of many of them. Much smoother flow. After Green Filters and the X, I have been able to pull about 2 mph higher on the front straight at TWS. Out of 7 events, 5 of them were without the X and greenies. Both of the events I ran after the install were consistant. Many people say, and I tend to agree, that the X makes the car sound more like a V8 with a 180 deg or "flat" crank. |

| Thanks to DSB again for the original posting that inspired me to test out my own vehicle. I do like the x-pipes sounds better, but must admit that I miss the start-up sounds of the straight pipes a bit. But it's a very good trade off for a more refined sound. |

RB136 makes a good point about the Xpipe's benefits. I haven't noticed a speed increase but I don't own all that fancy equipment either. Wish I did though!
