Default TWS 19 Jan 08 H4 L 5-7

Well, finally got the the camera working again and have some fair videos of an event at Texas World Speedway on 1-19 & 1-20. The video host I'm using only allows 500 MB per week and this vid alone is 309. However, their video quality is the best I've seen. I'll post these over the next few weeks. This vid is laps 5-7 on the last run on Saturday. You definitely want to send this link to all of your Porsche and BMW buds.

Brings back a lot of memories, wish I could of been there especially as that was my birthday. After all my trackdays im still not sure the car matters to much at this level. I used to be the in the the white group and my friend would be a faster driver in his old 318i bmw. well he as done it a few more times as he now is one of the instructors for pca for TWS and cresson.

Hmm, the car helps a lot, but the driver makes a big difference. RB is a great driver who really works the track. He is scary fast around the course, and I enjoyed seeing him catch up with me and pass me.

The good news, is with RB in front, I would be by a short time later and they thought it was the same SLK passing them again, so they just let me by!

Pretty much what I was saying, Regardless of the cars out there it's the drivers that go faster on these days. At higher semi-pro up levels the car comes much more into play. I wasn't taking anything away from the driving, sorry if it sounded that way. Ive seen guys and track bikes on a 250cc overtake guys on GSXR 1000 and seen guys in civic's overtake GT3's. and thats what I love about the track days as it's mostly on the driver.

I think at the level of driving in these track day events, the car makes little difference compared to the driver. I ran in SCCA in 69 -71 and only got back into track events a couple of years ago. This was my first run in the yellow group and I wasn't use to being passed. A 911 Turbo, WRX STi and a S2000 all passed me this weekend. These guys had nads. I've come to the conclusion that I'm leaving 10-15 MPH on the table in turns 1 & 2. Similar on other turns. I've been knocking a couple of seconds off my times with every event but at high 2:04s, I'm going to have to grow some stones to get significantly better. My first big breakthrough in this car was learning to trust the brakes. If you notice, I'm still at full throttle at the end of the barrier between pit lane and the track. I know the brakes will save me. I realize that's sort of a brute force approach but until I gain some finess, it will have to do. Anyone that says the 2008 brakes aren't a rip off is mistaken.

Robert, after riding with Steve in his RS GT3, I can assure you that he just slams on the brakes before entering any apex. But then, he is back to almost full throttle, as he is constantly adjusting steering and is at the very edge of traction to keep from sliding off. It is an amazing experience. It made me realize how much I was leaving in the turns, and the need to improve my driving even more.

Maybe I can grow my nads also....

F11F the GT3 has the benefit from the PCCB Brakes which are carbon ceramic composites they really encourage any driver to stop at late as possible and they do also handle the thrashing and heat.

Turns 1 and 2 are probably the hardest to drive correctly, due in part to the bottleneck effect. I have had numerous opinions from the instructors, so there is not much consensus on that.
I can tell that I have left too speed by the fact I didn't push out to the rumble strip coming out of 2.
